"Bronowski said, ‘If we…try to reduce the human being to a number, we create an Auschwitz.’ In his book he’s actually standing in Auschwitz where he lost many members of his family where he said, ‘Because of certainty. Certainty is the killer."

Another good, but also gut wrenchingly sad book about Auschwitz.
After studying the war for 14 years at school, I'm not ususlly that bothered about reading/watching anything about it.
But this, and the tattooist of Auschwitz did grab my attention. Getting single peoples points of view of what happened is horrifying, yet I also couldn't stop reading.
An awful topic to read about, but a good book

A must read for any one interested in the Humanitarian side of WW2. A forgotten character in the history of Auschwitz and one I was grateful to have read.

This book allows for an insight to the goings on at Auschwitz and and really makes you think about the horrors that occurred in that period of time, while also following the love story of the main character. (0 more)

The game that began in Auschwitz only ends nearly 20 years later for these three men. Read my review of The Death's Head Chess Club by John Donoghue here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2015/04/05/gambits-and-pawns/

Wow what an amazing book. Really hard to put down and gives you an insight into what happened in Auschwitz. I shed a few tears reading this. Can't wait for Cilka's Journey which is the sequel to this book.
