Sarah (7800 KP) rated Thor: Ragnarok (2017) in Movies
Nov 5, 2017 (Updated Nov 6, 2017)
One of the best Marvel films
This is definitely the best Thor film by far, and up there as being one of the best Marvel films in general.
It's so much fun, and the humour in it is brilliant. It's very funny, and Korg has to be my new favourite character. The action scenes were marvellous and the sfx too. The whole 80s neon theme works really well, especially with the awesome soundtrack. The plot was interesting and serious, but with the humour in it felt a lot more lighthearted than other recent Marvel films. This seemed much more along the same lines as the Guardians of the Galaxy films.
I loved some of the new characters like Valkyrie and the Grandmaster, although my only negative is that I felt Karl Urban and Idris Elba were a little underused. Need more Heimdall!

Jenny Houle (24 KP) rated Holiday Cookies: Showstopping Recipes to Sweeten the Season in Books
Jan 13, 2018
Received a free copy of this book through NetGalley for an unbiased opinion.
Every single recipe in this cookbook looked so awesome...but it's cookies, so that's hard not to be the case.
My five star review is actually based more on content and layout. The author broke the recipes down into six sections, and explained how and why she divided the recipes as she did. She also included a very useful list of 10 cookie tips and tricks.
I think my favorite part of the cookbook, though, was that each recipe was simple even though some looked more complicated. There were very few of the 50 cookie recipes that required ingredients that weren't relatively standard in a household. And she included an icing recipe and tips on how to best store cookies so that they are preserved well for a later time.

Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated Stitch It Simple: 25 hand sewn projects to make and share in Books
Apr 27, 2018
Stitch it simple is one of those rare books where I like every single pattern. I mean really, how can you not love a stuffed cat door stop, or felt slippers, or adorable elephants hanging down? The patterns range from small décor (stuffed butterfly, an Owl card) to large, (purses, window panels, cushions)
One thing I really like is a lot of the patterns have little “alternate patterns,” with a variation on the pattern. For instance the bird table-runner has a variation to make it into a placemat. The Owl card has an alternate Owl Tote bag you can make.
All the photographs are beautiful, and it has detailed drawings and diagrams on the techniques. This book would be awesome for people who want one book and lots of projects that will get them started sewing for the home.

I really like this book. I would buy this book for me, or for a friend. I’d keep a copy in my car to hand out to someone I though needed it. I’d recommend it to any woman who has been told she should “be above rubies” and should mirror a P.31 woman, but never given a practical to-do list on how to make that happen.
I mean, real Godly women wouldn’t need that to-do list, right? They would just know. They would read the Bible and just understand without help.
Nope. I’m a “to-do list” kind of girl!
This book was awesome. It goes through the history and background of specific words, how illustrations used in the Bible translates to our day and age, and what that means for us. It was beautiful and, most importantly, encouraging.

Jennifer Daniell (108 KP) rated WhatsApp Messenger in Apps
Apr 17, 2018
My Most Used App
I am honestly so thankful for this app. Having two of your three best friends living internationally - in "third world" countries no less, figuring out how to effectively keep in touch can be difficult. However thanks to Whatsapp I have been able to talk to them both EVERY DAY extensively and constantly, just as I would if they were in the same town as me. Not just via text either, but through voice texting - being able to hear my best friends voice in real time from across the world at any given moment FOR FREE is a miracle to me. And being able to video chat with while shes standing at the base of the pyramids or in a museum full of antiquities is pretty darn awesome too.

Jessica Cashen (1 KP) rated Paramnesia: The Deadish Chronicles in Books
May 16, 2018
Awesome read. Well written, with a great plot and characters. I was engrossed from start to finish. Although there were some slow spots. This book has elements of suspense, mystery, humour, and action. Nora's story is quite tragic but hopeful. She loses her boyfriend that she loves very much, but winds up with the ability to see and talk to the dead. Unfortunately the dead never rests, and at first she thinks she is going crazy. With a bit of help she realizes there is nothing wrong with her brain......she is seeing and hearing dead people. How will she handle her gifts, and the fact that ghosts exist? Overall a great read and I can't wait to read the next book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Netgalley.

graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Vol. 1: Squirrel Power in Books
Feb 15, 2019
So it took me a long time to pick this up, mainly due to the artwork, more like the faces, more specifically the girls' faces are weird and squishy-square. But then I saw the horror show that was Squirrel Girl's debut....
Are you read for this?
There aren't any small children or animals around, right?
You don't have any heart problems? Epilepsy? Minor anxiety?
Okay, but I warned you:
<spoiler><IMG src="http://i66.tinypic.com/9u15cw.jpg"/IMG></spoiler>
I know, right? Total nightmare fuel. I'm fine(-ish) with the faces now.
In addition, the story and Twitter feeds are totally effing funny. And cute. And perfect in almost every way. Except the squirrel suit. Because that's just weird and creepy.
And oh yeah, where can I get her roommate Nancy's posters because they're awesome:

Dean (6927 KP) rated The Forbidden Kingdom (2008) in Movies

Jet Li v Jackie Chan ...well for one scene at least. This is a great martial arts, fantasy film that seemed to not get a cinema release?! I find that very strange considering this is the first film to feature Chan and Li together. It has the same fight choreographer from The Matrix, Kill Bill and Crouching Tiger! The fights are truly awesome. Add some humour, a little adventure, good SFX and an all round good cast, makes for a great film. The start reminds me of some of the great fantasy films of my childhood like Never ending story. It's no coincidence that the old martial arts series Monkey is on the TV towards the start, as this film has a similar feel to it as that. So if you like the sound of any of that check this out.
