Dean (6927 KP) rated Fast Five (2011) in Movies
Feb 11, 2018
Fast Five star! The series has gone full circle and this one breathes new life into the series which got stronger with the 4th installment and is bettered by this one! We have even more of the cast from the earlier films including Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson from the second. Not to mention another surprise cameo after the credits to hint at a 6th film!
This one goes from street racing to heist film, but there are plenty of big stunts, fights, sexy girls, humour, a cool soundtrack and of course a range of awesome cars. I love that there are so many ties with the cast and events to the previous films. The Rock is a great addition to the series as the extreme FBI hunter sent to capture them. You couldn't ask for more from an action film!

I won this book through a Goodreads Giveaway and somehow never received it. I contacted the author and she was sooo very gracious to send me out another copy, thank you so much!! You are Awesome!!! :)
From the moment I started reading, I was drawn into the story. The chaotic life of a working Mom and her crazy work life! The anxiety of trying to balance kids, husband, a horrid boss, meeting after meeting, added job duties and then an old flame from the past that she still has unanswered questions about. Sophie was a likable and easily understandable character. I have felt the same way sometimes in regards to certain things.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and cannot wait for a new book, Kate Hilton is a very talented and wonderful author!! Please keep them coming!!

Another cool Dark Castle entertainment horror re-make. Didn't know of the original until I saw some reviews mention it. This reminded me a lot of the House on Haunted Hill remake made 2 years earlier. It's fun, not too serious, has a good mix of humour and gore/kills. The cast is ok and well known with Shannon Elizabeth and Matthew Lillard, but it was a nice surprise to see Tony Shalhoub (Monk) appear in this. What really makes this film enjoyable in my opinion, along with House on Haunted Hill, is the set design, make up and ghoulish characters created. Both films have a great wacky house setting, good SFX and the ghosts in this look awesome. A great way to enjoy 90mins. So if you liked House on Haunted Hill you will like this just as much.

Ross (3284 KP) rated Deadpool 2 (2018) in Movies
Sep 10, 2018
First off, no this is not as good as the first film. But then it never could be. The first film had no expectations around it, it could go crazy with a narrow storyline, some origin work, and fill the rest with gags. Since its success, the sequel was always going to have to be bigger and pack more punch. And it certainly does that.
The comedy is still there in droves, both the 4th wall breaks and crude one liners.
The action has stepped up quite a lot, as has the SFX budget. The opening fight scene in Japan is exquisite, as is the end battle ("CGI battle scene").
The formation of X-Force was awesome and not the major feature I was dreading.
Quite simply, this is more of a superhero movie with Deadpool overlaid on top to brilliant effect.

Depth of story not associated with Bad Ass-ness (1 more)
Only one reference to peppermint, doesn't warrant the name of the movie as a whole
Solid Suburban Mom Vigilante Bad Ass Movie.
This was a good time. It's like Boondock Saints (minus the style) meets Shooter and Alias. Everyone loves it when untouchable bad guys get their comeuppance. We all like watching the take down of corruption. That said I could've used a little more depth of story. It was mostly by the numbers as far as action films go. I went into this one not knowing the basic premise, my wife picked it and I said ok. Had I known the premise I would've seen most of this movie coming. That's not to say it's less enjoyable, just that it's slightly less awesome. (hence the 7)

Highly recommended for both new and longtime campers!
This book was so much fun! So much more than just a cookbook, it had everything from healthy, delicious looking recipes to tips on virtually every aspect of camping! As an avid longtime (& sometimes full-time) camper myself it was great to see so many little helpful tidbits for those just heading out into the woods as well as some awesome ideas for our next trip out.
So much more informative than any camping cookbook I've seen - Humourous and inspirational stories and tidbits like 12 different ways to make a s'more and a huge list of delicious sounding pancake toppers. Helpful tips about foraging, pets, wildlife, fun illustrations, even car games & fun for the kids!
Fabulous book and beautiful cover - Highly recommended for both new and longtime campers!

Very moving
This doc is for everyone, not just people interested in military history. Peter Jackson has done an amazing job putting together a seamless, cohesive film from the many hours of footage he had available. I am usually not a fan of black and white films being colorized but in this case, it really adds to the viewer's experience. You'll get a real sense of what it was like on front lines of WWI and see the universal experience of the soldiers, no matter what country they were from. At times it's funny, at times heartbreaking, always intense. It's definitely a must-see. And do yourself a favor, stay after the credits for Peter Jackson's discussion about what it took to make this film. The amount of research and detail he and his team put into this film is awesome.

Chris Sawin (602 KP) rated Game of Death II (1981) in Movies
Jun 23, 2019
This is even worse than the original Game of Death. A jumbled, incoherent storyline leads to "Billy Lo" falling from a helicopter to the ground below, killing him, as we're left to follow his younger brother, Bobby Lo. So not only do we start out following some Bruce Lee clone, the film kills that one off and has us follow another one thirty minutes into the story. The main reason to watch this one is when Bobby Lo fights a lion, which is quite obviously a guy in a lion costume. Jang Lee Hwang is also the villain, who is usually pretty awesome but his screen time is significantly small. Mainly watched these two films because they're a part of the Bruce Lee boxed set. It's no wonder they're included with Lee's finished works. No one would buy them otherwise.

Another corker from Jodi
I was almost not looking forward to reading this book as normally Jodi Picoults books put me through the emotional wringer. However, this one left me (mostly) dry eyed. Don’t get me wrong, I love a blub more than most people but it’s nice to occasionally finish one of her books without being covered in tears and snot!
Despite this, it is an awesome book. I’m not going to divulge the story but it’s basically about racism and people’s perceived attitudes to it. The 3 points of view are Ruth Jefferson, a black nurse. Turk Bauer, a white supremacist and Kennedy McQuarrie, a lawyer.
It’s well thought out and you can really get under the skin of the character. A really good read, one I would probably read more than once.
