Remy Tankel Carroll (36 KP) rated Gangsterland in Books
Dec 19, 2018
(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion). I enjoyed reading this book. The depth of the author's research is evident from the beginning. The gangster-speak, the religious references, the anatomical knowledge and more all add up to a thoroughly entertaining reading experience. The story starts as a typical mob tale...gangster kills good guys, gets shipped to another "family", gets new identity, etc. Where it gets interesting for me is when said gangster, Sal, is introduced to his new life. You can slowly see the battle between "good & evil" grow, like his old life and new life are fighting for control. The other characters are just as genuine, each playing a specific role in Sal's transformation. I'm looking forward to catching up with Sal and the gang in the next installment of the series.

David McK (3587 KP) rated A Ship of the Line in Books
Jun 30, 2019
2nd published but chronologically number 7 in CS Foresters Hornblower series, that sees Horatio Hornblower in command of his first ship-of-the-line, the 74 gun HMS Sutherland.
A ship-of-the-line, by the way, is simply that: a naval ship of 2+ decks of guns that was designed to stand in the line of battle back in the days when they largely sailed astern of each other, and when the battles devolved into firing broadsides at each other.
Under the command of Admiral Leighton, who has married Hornblower's extramarital flame from the previous novel (Lady Barbara Wellesley), Hornblower finds himself sailing the coast of Catalonia (Spain) and getting - as per usual - involved in all sorts of missions both on and off land, ending with a cliff-hanger ending when he and his ship fights alone against 4 enemy vessels.

One of the best movies of 2018
Overload- was produced by J. J. Abrams.
The plot: On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers drop behind enemy lines to penetrate the walls of a fortified church and destroy a radio transmitter. As the soldiers approach their target, they soon begin to realize that there's more going on in the Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. Making their way to an underground lab, the outnumbered men stumble upon a sinister experiment that forces them into a vicious battle against an army of the undead.
Overload- mixed togther horror, action, comedy, war, violence, gore and zombies all into one film.
Overload to me is one of the best movies that came out last year. Its very underrated. More people should watch it, cause its a excellent movie. Highly reccordmend this movie.

Monsters vs Monsters... Epic
After the sour taste the last big screen adaptation left in my mouth I wasn’t overly enthusiastic for this one. I mean hyping your entire movie around Bryan Cranston to just kill him in the first 20 minutes leaving second best Quicksilver to hold the movie up was just Mental.
BUT this movie did promise one thing, more Kaiju more Godzilla instead of the pitiful 10 minutes screen time on our last outing. boy did it deliver of the Kaiju battles in spades.
That’s all I wanted was to see Godzilla battle it out with Mothra, Ghiadora and whoever else, just take me back to my childhood and give me epic scale monster fights. I felt this movie delivered that unapologetically so it’s a win.
Also I kinda love seeing Kyle Chandler in things.

Awix (3310 KP) rated The Man Who Killed Don Quixote (2018) in Movies

Terry Gilliam emerges victorious from his epic battle to the death with Miguel Cervantes' famous novel. Not quite the movie he famously never finished making with Johnny Depp, nearly twenty years ago, but a subtly different tale of a film director finding himself entangled in different versions of the Quixote story and, perhaps, looking for redemption.
After a slow and rambling start the film eventually becomes a charming, funny, and occasionally thrilling and moving adaptation (sort of) of the book - if it's picaresque and episodic, that's the nature of Quixote. The knowing wit and intelligence of the novel survive too. Strong performances, visually very impressive - the fact the film exists at all is remarkable, let alone that it's this good. Very reminiscent of Gilliam's movies from the 1980s: hugely imaginative, narratively chaotic, very individual, and equally easy to like.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a two part play written by Jack Thorne, based on an original story by J. K. Rowling which continues directly where the last one ended, 19 years after the battle of Hogwarts.
The story follows Harry Potter, now Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic, and his younger son Albus Severus Potter, who is about to begin his first term at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
After discovering that his father was present the night Cedric diggory died, Albus decides to right his father's wrongs by making sure Cedric never dies?!
What follows is truly unforseen....
This was some amazing story telling that genuinely had me hooked, a story about communication, trust & sacrifices.

We Are Not An Effective Team
Oblivion- is a intresting and excited sci-fi movie. I like the plot, the sci-fi, the action and the setting.
The plot: In the year 2077, Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) works as a security repairman on an Earth left empty and devastated after a war with aliens. Jack has two weeks left before his mission ends and he joins his fellow survivors on a faraway colony. However, Jack's concept of reality comes crashing down after he rescues a beautiful stranger (Olga Kurylenko) from a downed spacecraft. The woman's arrival triggers a chain of events that culminates in Jack's nearly single-handed battle to save mankind.
Like i said before i really like the sci-fi, the plot, the action, the setting and its a very intresting and excited movie.
