It is a story that lays bare the beauty and brutality of coming-of-age discovery and first love with all of its divine, euphoric highs and melancholy, longing lows. The truth embodied in these characters makes you want to jump right into the pages to express your own empathy for what is being said and left unsaid. We have all lived these honest moments of connection and miscommunication in the soulful, connective force that is love. If I had to give this book a rating with stars I would give it a shooting star indeed."

This atmospheric mystery is beautifully written incorporating evocative imagery, quiet menacing tension and spare poetic prose.
The novel examines themes of isolation, male mental health, identity and truth with a profundity that stay with you long after you have finished reading.
The imagery of the sea representing the men's emotions contrasting with the domestic metaphors of the women effectively contrast the two different worlds they occupy and how divided their relationships became.
The mystery outcome of this book was satisfying for any lover of thrillers but the real beauty of this book comes from the poetry, the emotion and the tragedy of life lived with regret.

This movie was just not it for me. I know that the "gore" level is supposed to be for emphasis and drama but it just is so unrealistic, it's hard to stay with the story. I think the star in this film is Lea Thompson and her beauty radiates off the screen and her character is one I really loved.

I think the plot of the film is interesting, I like that it's set in Colorado as that's where I'm from, but I just couldn't believe that if the Soviets were going to attack the United States that they'd start in a rural Coloradan town. That just seems ridiculous and counterproductive.

Overall, I think I'm really stuck on the fundamentals of the film and that's what made this movie just not great for me.
