This book wasn't what I thought. I bought it thinking it talked more about the paintings that were featured in it. That wasn't what it was at all. It was more of a condensed biography of Dali's life. It was an interesting read mostly because Dali was a fascinating character in the art world & the world in general.

Not a bad book, but there's just so little really known about Katherine Swynford there's hardly enough to make a biography out of! I finished this feeling I had learned more about Margery Kempe than I had about Katherine Swynford. There were also several times when I found text repeated almost verbaitm from one section to another.

"This is an all-time favorite for a Darwin lover. I can read it again and again and always find something new. Also, though the last 30 years have seen a veritable cataract of books about Darwin and Darwiniana, I keep returning to Janet Browne’s superb two-volume biography, Charles Darwin: Voyaging and Charles Darwin: The Power of Place."

"This biography, written with a novelist’s stylization, was an incendiary moment in western culture. Ironically, it became the weapon that would win the cultural wars for dispossessed black, urban America. It’s impossible to think of what street culture of white Hollywood would look like without it. Slim is the most influential writer in English since Shakespeare."

I found this to be an interesting and balance biography of Walt Disney. The author played media critic a bit too much, which bothered me, but in the end I walked away with a clearer picture of a true American success story.

"More than a biography, Ellmann’s telling of the familiar tale of the Irish playwright’s spectacular rise and tragic downfall holds up a mirror to society’s hypocrisy about almost everything but especially sex. Wilde was the original victim of “Don’t ask, Don’t tell.” He was London’s pet Bad Boy until it turned out he was a man with a dick as well."

Commissioned to write the biography of the fading and aging writer Mamoon Azam, Harry hopes this daunting task will get his career off the ground, and maybe revitalize the old man's in the process. However, getting there becomes a battle of wills and words. Read my review of this unusual novel here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2015/07/07/their-pens-might/

Cece's first biography is being turned into a film. As she is coaching the star on Dashiel Hammett, he is distracted by a murder. What has Cece stumbled into this time? The characters and plot were great, with shades of a Dashiel Hammett story.

"Still the essential biography of the music industry. Dannen is pretty ruthless in describing a time in the music business when hustle was the name of the game — although that’s pretty much the same today, to be honest. I joke that I used to have hair before I started working in the music business, but thankfully the staggering levels of corruption that Dannen describes no longer exist."
