"It stars Gregory Peck and Lee Remick as a couple who gives birth to the Bad Guy’s son. And how do you know? Well, he’s got 666 somewhere on his skull, and you got to move the hairs apart. I mean, it’s just very scary stuff, but when you really think about it, not a lot of blood and gore. There’s a scene where a guy is walking with the intent of hurting [the son, Damien], and then all of a sudden the truck rolls down a hill and decapitates the guy. You’re kind going, ‘What the Hell?’ And layer after layer of the story peel away until finally, later on, you understand.”

Thus I do not think: ‘How marvelously lucid this is!’ — but: ‘Stop! I cannot think this fast! Or rather I cannot grow this fast!’ For, I am not only reading this book, but creating it myself, and this unique and enormous experience has purged my mind of much of the confusion and sterility that has clogged it all these horrible months."

When Nathalie is interviewed about how being adopted effected her life, although initially she denies that it made any difference to her, she suddenly discovers a need to find her birth parents, and insists that her brother David (also adopted) do the same. This takes them down a road that neither of them were ever prepared to travel, and yet, are both, inexplicably drawn towards.

With "Brother and Sister" Joanna Trollope gives us a parallel study in human nature, but she does so with such simple artistry that you'll find yourself compelled to read this straight through.
