Chayu (810 KP) rated The Ritual (2017) in Movies

Worth watching
A beautiful movie with enough gore and mystery. This movie will make you question who's the villain for most part of the film, and you will not expect to see what you will see near the end of it. It is not action based with rivers of blood, but it will do its best to scare you and make you shiver from every sound.

With what is quite a crowded genre chock full of below average vamp flicks this one injects some much needed originality.
It's clearly made on a smaller budget but the effects are very good and the attention to detail is a good reason to catch this one, acting could have been better from some of the actors, however Sam Niell is quite the menacing blood farm CEO, worth watching!

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2340 KP) rated Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters: Bk. 2 in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Percy Jackson sets out on a quest to save Grover the satyr and possibly Camp Half Blood as well. I had a few issues with the plot being episodic and a tad too much like the first one, but over all I enjoyed this second book in the series.

David McK (3557 KP) rated Down Among the Dead Men (Forest Kingdom, #3) in Books
Jan 30, 2019
Essentially a horror novel within a fantasy setting, this is set in the same world as Simon Green's earlier novels "Blue Moon Rising" and "Blood and Honour"; albeit about 10 years on from "Blue Moon Rising", with the odd reference to the events of that (better) book.
It's also pretty much rote stuff: there's nothing really outstanding about this book that would make it stand out from the crowd.

Kristina (502 KP) rated Sarah's Key in Books
Dec 7, 2020
This story was so sad, but it made me more angry than anything. Just the thought of what happened all those years ago, the devastation and horror, honestly gets my blood boiling. As depressing as this it was, for Sarah and Julia, I didn't cry, which was what I wanted, but I was still moved. The ending felt lackluster, yet it was real, raw, so any other ending wouldn't have fit.

James Koppert (2698 KP) rated The Day The Rain Came in Books

Dont judge a book by its cover
I thought I was really clever and sussed a twist but I was absolutely wrong. Emma Mason has bravely attempted a colloquial style novel, very hard to achieve well and yet achieves it with aplomb. Brilliant twisty narrative about twins and resentment leading to murderess blood lust. There are so many crime books it's refreshing to read something a little different. An incredible debut.
