Samueljhague (1250 KP) rated The Castles of Burgundy in Tabletop Games

Building a better board game.
The Castles of Burgundy looks like a typical Euro- board game from the early 2000's it looks boring. It also looks more complicated than it ends up being. The amount of brain power use in this game has a good balance between cerebral and mindless. At the end of the game you have something in front of you that you have built and it feels good in that respect even if you haven't won the game. It can be played casually, and with your full attention. My wife and I enjoy playing this as two players. We have played this many times more as a two player game than any other game in our collection. This game gets top marks, and is as close to a perfect game as I have experienced.
Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated The Umbrella Academy, Vol. 1: The Apocalypse Suite in Books
Jan 12, 2018
I have read, (and reread) this TPB many times. Each time I find it amazing. It's full of odd humor, tragically flawed heroes, a fun subversion of the superhero genre, time travel, a smattering of steampunk, and chock full of some amazing characters. It's well written, with artwork to match. I don't know that I can describe what its about, you just have to experience it. Top marks across the board...again!
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2603 KP) rated Killer Cruise (A Jaine Austen Mystery, #8) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Jaine has earned herself a free vacation by agreeing to teach memoire writing aboard a cruise ship. But things go from bad (her cat stows away) to worse when someone is murdered on board and Jaine's new friend is accused of the crime. Absolutely hilarious as always with a decent mystery as well.

The Marinated Meeple (1853 KP) rated Pentago in Tabletop Games
Mar 14, 2018
It's a better version of Tic Tac Toe, and it's clever
The depth is more than it should be. The ability to rotate the board into a position is interesting, but it still comes down to tic tac toe. If you like this game I think there are better abstract games out there, but I would happily play with a beer in hand and good opponent across from me.

Special tiles (2 more)
Easy to play
Engaging
A standard tile placement
As from my title, this is a type of game you've probably seen several versions of, and it's nothing new. However I still very much enjoy these type of games, with it being a big hit with those I play board games with.
If you've never tried this type of game before I would certainly recommend the purchase.

Harry Andrews (4 KP) rated Relic in Tabletop Games

Intense gameplay (3 more)
Perfect detail
Efficient rules
Beautiful board art
In the grim future there is only relic...
40k has always been known as the grim future but this game puts you into the middle of the fight against chaos individually and if you dont pay attention you could lose without even realising it. A long game but totally worth it as it is ridiculously fun and perfectly intense.
Carlton Reece (41 KP) rated Deception: Murder in Hong Kong in Tabletop Games
Jul 29, 2019
Great party game for about 5-7
Deception is a great game for an evening in with friends based around the simple task of discovering the murderer using unique roles. After only 1 explanation of the game we where able to sit and play without any confusion and we had to play a number of games before we could bring ourselves to stop
