"This is a companion portrait of the existential man of The Fire Within, but it is the obverse—men facing their end not by the personal choice of suicide but by literally being blown to bits. Beginning in a slow, sleepy town (an extended sequence that was once severely trimmed), it tracks men who are moving toward death on a literal and metaphorical road but whose ability to face the void ahead of them is Camus-like in its indomitability. Screwed down as tightly as a pipe bomb, this Clouzot film threatens to blow up in front of you at every turn. You want to scream as you reach to grab the truck’s steering wheel."

I presume that most people have all but forgotten the crazy story of Richard Jewell and the events surrounding the 1996 Atlanta Olympics bomb. This retelling is done very well with a cast that fires on all cylinders.

There are some times that the moving gets a bit slow, but it almost has to in order to tell the story it's conveying.

Sam Rockwell deserves far more credit that he received for his role, and Kathy Bates might have been shunned for a supporting actress award, as well as Jon Hamm for supporting actor.

If you have any interest in history or events from American (or world) history, this movie is definitely worth the time.

Brilliant! Utterly brilliant!
So I admire the writers and directors for this movie almost as much as the actors and actresses. Despite absolutely remarkable performances the storyline for me was a little bit of a long shot. The whole plotline of splitting a meteor in half with a bomb and it perfectly going either side of the earth. I mean come on!

That being said, the performances from actors like Bruce Willis, ving rhames and Ben Affleck all brought this film to life.

As for the soundtrack, it went down in history almost straight away as one of the greatest power ballads to date.

Nothing says knockabout comedy like a truck bomb
Raucous action-comedy odd-couple movie with uptight protection agent Ryan Reynolds having to get laid-back hired killer Samuel L Jackson to the court on time so he can testify against evil despot Gary Oldman (one of his 'just here for the cheque' performances).

Some good jokes and well-mounted action but you have to wonder about a movie which thinks there's nothing tonally weird about including scenes of women and children being cold-bloodedly murdered or terror attacks on western cities in what's essentially a knockabout comedy. Some genuinely funny moments and nice chemistry between the two leads, but hard to get past the fundamental moral vacancy of it all.
