Heather Cranmer (2721 KP) rated The Dark and Hollow Places (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #3) in Books
Jun 7, 2018
This book was good, but it wasn't as good as the first 2. There was just something lacking. Maybe I just couldn't relate to Annah 100% or maybe it was the fact that the plot wasn't as fast-paced as the first books.
I found Annah to be a tad bit annoying. She was too much of a do-gooder & I found it frustrating.
I liked the fact that Gabry, Catcher and Elias were featured in this book though. I just wish Mary would've been in it if only for a brief appearance.
Overall, this is a great book (as well as a great series). Even though the plot wasn't as fast paced as the first 2 books, it was still good. It does convey human emotion very well.
Fans of The Forest of Hands and Teeth series won't be disappointed.

Ross (3284 KP) rated The Shadow Rising in Books
Sep 22, 2017
Excellent 4th instalment of the Wheel of Time series. Rand tries to win the respect and following of the battle-savvy Aiel by entering mystical city Rhuidean. The events within this section of the book really are key for the saga as a whole, and Mat is gifted with the tools and knowledge he needs to become the true hero he is. Meanwhile Perrin tries to return to his old life, but things have moved on and he ends up leading an army in battle.
This book probably contains the biggest development in the main characters, all of Rand, Mat, Perrin, Nynaeve and Moiraine learn new things or undergo significant changes that will last throughout the series.

Alison Pink (7 KP) rated Three to Get Deadly (Stephanie Plum, #3) in Books
Jan 15, 2018
Three to Get Deadly was my favorite book in the Stephanie Plum series so far. As usual it was unpredictable & didn't try too hard. I found myself laughing out loud at several points in the book. My favorite was when all her elderly neighbors came out carrying handguns, shotguns, & assalt rifles when they heard a gunshot come from Plum's apartment. That would be quite a sight!
This story line was the most interesting in the series to this point. There were lots of twists & turns. The secret life of the neighborhood ice cream & candy man being the most interesting. Just goes to show that you never truly know what someone does behind closed doors! UGH!

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2579 KP) rated Deadly Currents (An RM Outdoor Adventures Mystery, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
When a man dies on new river ranger Mandy Tanner's watch, she's naturally upset. But when it turns out to be murder, she feels compelled to investigate.
I enjoyed this first book in a series if for no other reason because I enjoyed the river rafting background. I did find Mandy a little too hard to take at times as she seemed to overreact to those around her. I could see her side, but even so it seemed like a bit much. Still, I am looking forward to the next in the series.

The Bob-Whites go with Miss Trask to visit her brother only to learn a legend of a vanishing pirate and that the family inn has become the victim of some vicious sabotage. Can Trixie figure out what is happening?
Another fun book in the series. Trixie and Mart’s fighting is worse than normal, and that does bother me. However, all seven of the Bob-Whites get to go, and the mystery is decent with some fun twists and clues along the way. A definitely must read for fans of the series.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2579 KP) rated Murder on Bamboo Lane (An Officer Ellie Rush Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Elllie Rush is a rookie with the LAPD bicycle patrol division. Her desire to become a detective gets an early start when she gets involved in the murder of a classmate. Is she helping the investigation? Will it help or hurt her career?
This new series from Naomi Hirahara is off to a great start. The characters are fully formed already, and that gives a depth to the plot that I really enjoyed. The plot was interesting with some nice misdirection and twists along the way. I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series.

Scarlett Gauthier (0 KP) rated Gemina: The Illuminae Files: Book 2 in Books
Mar 17, 2018
This series continues to amaze me! While I feel like I slightly liked Illuminae a little bit more, Gemina was still completely amazing! I loved the new characters, and was just as emotionally attached to them as I had been to the ones in the first book. The writing style was just as good if not better than Illuminae, especially some parts at the end, including pages that had me turning the book upside down and sideways and just some truly amazing pages that I can’t talk about without spoilers. And the twists! I seriously don’t know how I’m going to wait over two months for Obsidio. This has easily become one of my favorite series ever!
Erika Kehlet (21 KP) rated Death at First Sight (Bay Island Psychic Mystery #1) in Books
Feb 21, 2018
Book #1 in the Bay Island Psychic mystery series.
This paranormal cozy mystery was really mostly cozy, with just a touch of paranormal, but that was fine with me. I loved the protagonist, Cass. She and her friends were very well developed, and felt like a group of people Id like to get to know. The mystery itself was well written and full of surprises. It took me a few chapters to get really sucked in, but once I did, I couldnt put it down. This was a great way to start a series Ill be watching for book #2!
NOTE: I voluntary read and reviewed an advanced copy.
