Ok, can I just gush about this cover? That was the first thing that caught my eye! I have a soft spot for combat and working dogs, so naturally after reading the summary I had to request this. Normally I do not go for suspense but this had great buildup and lots of twists and turns! This book slightly reminds me of D.D. Ayres's K-9 Rescue series as they are both suspense romance around a working dog. Really can not wait for book two.
I do not get paid for this netgalley arc~

Gareth Michael Lewis (6 KP) rated Fool Moon (The Dresden Files, #2) in Books
Jan 20, 2018
A worthy follow-up to Storm Front
I'll be upfront, I love this series of novels so will be fairly biased.
Our erstwhile hero, Harry Dresden, faces new threats in this book from wolves, werewolves and the authorities (mortal, magical and fae) and he has only his wits and his friends (few and far between) to help him.
Dresden is a believable hero in an unbelievable world. Magic has a cost, it doesn't solve everything, and sometimes a guy has to rely on himself and those he holds most dear in order to win the day, or even survive it.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2192 KP) rated Mama Rides Shotgun (A Mace Bauer Mystery, #2) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Mace and Mama are taking a trip on the historic Florida Cracker Trail, living (almost) as the cowboys did centuries ago. But when one of Mama's high school boyfriends is murdered when the group stops at his ranch, danger seems to be stalking Mace and her family.
I enjoyed this light mystery and am wondering why I didn't get back to this series sooner. The characters are charming and Mace shows some real growth here. The plot could have been a bit better developed, but the book was always entertaining.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2192 KP) rated Blue Sea Burning (The Chronicles of Egg #3) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
The final book in this middle grade trilogy finds Egg struggling to find a way to bring down his arch nemesis, greedy slave trader Roger Pembroke. With pirates, sea battles, and romantic complications, he'll have his hands full trying to do it.
The series goes out with the same fast action and wonderful characters I've been enjoying the entire way through. The humor scattered throughout helps as well. All three books are highly recommended for kids and adults. Just be sure to read them in order.

Dana (24 KP) rated Hoard of the Dragon Queen (Dungeons & Dragons, 5th Edition) in Books
Mar 23, 2018
Okay, so we haven't played the campaign yet, but this is the first full and proper D&D campaign book I have read. I am planning on DMing a version of this with my brother for his friends, and although we are changing some things to this plot, we are going to be using this and the next book in the series to help us with our first actual campaign.
I am really excited for this because it has both fights and character driven plot points that we'll be able to use to test our players in different ways. I can't wait to play this one out!

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2192 KP) rated Naughty in Nice (Her Royal Spyness Mysteries, #5) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Georgie manages to get a trip to Nice in the middle of winter to try to find something stolen from the palace. But then a second theft and a murder put her in danger. Can she find her way out of it? As always, Georgie and her family and friends are a delight to be around. Also as always, this book takes forever setting things up before the plot really gets going. I enjoy the series, but I wish the mystery got moving sooner.

Leah (: (569 KP) rated The Soul Bond (Werewolf High book 4) in Books

I enjoyed this book as we got to see more of Lucy and Tennyson and the growing connection between them.
I also enjoyed that some of the answers about Lucy were answered, as she possibly begins to get powers of her own, but what will they be??
I am still enjoying this series as a lighthearted teen book. We are also getting to see more of some of the other characters which is good as I particularly like Nikolai and Althea.
I still find it annoying that the main story is slow to progress, but will carry on with it as I am enjoying it.

Fantastic characters (2 more)
Imaginative world building
Wonderful plot
A wonderful reimagining
This book is the first in the series. This book was on my list for awhile, but I had been holding off reading it. I’m glad I finally did. It was a fast paced adventure with a sprinkle of romance. It had me rooting for Cinder the whole time, and there were enough twists to keep everything interesting. The villain was good, though I think she could have been given stonger motives. This was a fantastic retelling of an old fairytale, with an awesome sci-fi twist. I would highly recommend it.
Merissa (12027 KP) rated The Witching Pen (The Witching Pen Novellas, #1) in Books
Dec 17, 2018
This is the full length story of Elena and Karl and it starts when Karl is 27. For a long time, Elena and Karl have kept their relationship purely platonic due to circumstances "beyond their control" but things are about to change.
This story is full of action, romance, drama and suspense. You find out little snippets as you read along and the characters are built up. There is no insta-love in this book, just a deep and true friendship that could always have been something more if things had been different.
Absolutely brilliant and an ending which definitely makes you reach for the next book in the series!
