Christine A. (965 KP) rated Atlas of Adventures: Wonders of the World in Books
Dec 11, 2018
beautifully illustrated pages (1 more)
"find and seek" at the end of the book
Latest in the best-selling "Atlas of Adventures" series
I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review.
"Atlas of Adventures: Wonders of the World" is the latest in the best-selling "Atlas of Adventures" series by Ben Handicott with illustrations by Lucy Letherland. The series is a set of colorful atlases marketed for children. Each of the 96 beautifully illustrated pages contains short informative and fascinating statements about the wonder. The book is divided by continent "showcasing the globe's most impressive landscapes, iconic buildings and evocative antiquities from both the modern and ancient worlds". Many of the wonders are those you would expect to find but it includes a few surprising ones too.
At the end of the book, there is a cute and enjoyable "find and seek" of many of the pictures presented throughout the book.
This book is larger than a normal hardback book. Its dimensions are 11.2 x 15 inches which would help to be able to read the statements. The series is available as a hardback. Reading it as an e-book was difficult because the book needed to be shrunken to screen size.
It is highly ranked on Amazon for sales in both the "Geography & Cultures > Travel" and "Science, Nature & How It Works > Mystery & Wonders" categories as of 12/11/18.

Molly J (Cover To Cover Cafe) (106 KP) rated Gladden the Heart (Amish Turns of Time #5) in Books

This is the first book in this series that I have read and I hope that after going back and reading the others in this series, that I can enjoy this one more. That said, this was not a bad book. Ms. Newport chisels her characters well, and the backdrop of the story is vividly created. Susanna and Adam’s characters really tugged at my heart, but I just couldn’t get as deep into the story as I would have liked to have gotten.
Something was missing. Or, perhaps, it was because I haven’t read the other books in this series and I just couldn’t fully grasp the entire setting. With that said, however, I still give this book 3.5 stars. Ms. Newport’s talent does shine through, and her characters do pull at your heart. I will be going back and reading the other books in this series then I will pick this one back up and try again.
I do encourage you to give this book a try, if you’ve read Ms. Newports other books in the series. You may fall in love with these sweet characters quicker that I did and you may love the story line.

This series always end up being a quick read for me--or at least for a paperback, anyway--but that could be down to the large font size.
Anyway, to start with I thought this series would be a bit like the authors [b:Heist Society|6574102|Heist Society (Heist Society, #1)|Ally Carter|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1359254479s/6574102.jpg|6767235] series--same characters, different mission every book--but it's turning out to have one big story arc that you get bits and pieces of every time you read a book in the series while still containing enough fun bits and bobs to make each story complete.
I'm still waiting for books 4 and 5 to arrive but as soon as they do, I'll be continuing this series to see what happens with my fave foursome and Zach and Mr Solomon.

Christine A. (965 KP) rated A Cut for a Cut (Detective Kate Young #2) in Books

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review. The opinions are entirely my own, and any quotes are taken from the ARC and may be different in the final published copy.
Detective Kate Young is back in the second installment of Carol Wyer's Detective Kate Young series, A Cut for a Cut. To give a fair review, I read the first book in the series, An Eye for an Eye. Some books in a series can stand alone. With this one, you would benefit from reading the first book.
I am a fan of Wyer's two police procedural series, her DI Robyn Carter series and the Detective Natalie Ward series, and was excited about a new series.
Young is a damaged but determined detective who works with a small team. She is struggling to come to terms with her husband's murder, and her team begins to notice she is not on the top of her game when they are tasked with finding who is sexually assaulting then killing young women. The investigation hits home when one of the victims is a woman the team all know through work. All through this, Kate continues an unsanctioned investigation started in the first book.
Let me just say, if you are a fan of British police procedural and strong women characters, then this or either of Wyer's other two series are ones to read.

Plenty of shadowhunting arse kicking (2 more)
Constant page Turner
Characters appearing from past series
Another master piece
I'm a massive fan of the shadowhunter world and own every book (listed editions if possible) infernal devices is my favourite series but the dark artifices is a close second. This is the second book in the series. The main focus is Julian and Emma parabatai and best friend but also fighting their love for each other which is forbidden. Their are many characters in this book which can get a confusing when you start reading but the further you get the more each character stands out.
All in all its a page Turner and I couldn't put it down its has action, romance, betrayal, heart dropping tear jerking moments.

I adored this book so much that I went and bought the 2nd one in the series before I was even done with it. Interesting spin on the supernatural sci-fi genre.

I'm a big fan of this series and this book is just as good as the rest.
Always fast paced with plenty of action.
If you like military romance you'll love this.
