I really enjpyed this book, i have been meaning to read it for some time. I watched the film first which I don't usually do but that inspired me to buy the book. I have given it eight stars because i enjoyed the storyline and the development of the characters, even down to the school bullies. I love the character of Macon Ravenwood as much as I loved Jeremy Irons playing the role of him in the movie. My only criticism would be that it is perhaps a bit too long and drawn out, especially as it is part of a series.

"Oh man, is there a funnier and more poignant film that captures the anarchic irreverence of that period? It’s just perfect, from start to finish, in my book. Ridiculously quotable with mad, perfect performances across the board. Richard E Grant is pure genius, but everyone in the film gives amazing and hilarious and heartbreaking performances. Again, I think loneliness and isolation, and a desire to belong play big parts in this one. The story is as much a love story between the two leads as anything, with a very sad break-up of sorts taking place at the very end; with Withnail left out in the rain."

waste. of. time.
I cannot believe I sat through two and a half hours of nothingness. Of bad characters, bad plot, bad music. The best part about this film was the color that they used. They had such vibrant shades and beautiful sets - that's the only positive. DiCaprio is a great actor, I've loved him in most all his films. This one is just not it. I had no clue Tobey Maguire was in this film and I think he was just as bad. I thought Joel Edgerton was fine.

The movie is as pointless as the book, if not more so. Nothing happened for an hour and a half. It's a 200-page book and they made a 2 and a half hour movie. I don't understand. This film is so bad. SO boring. Not worth the time or energy to keep your eyes open.
