Ruth Wilson recommended The Warriors (1979) in Movies (curated)

"The Warriors, only because it was such a brilliant… Well, actually, the reason why is because I did it as my first-ever stage play. We did a staged version of The Warriors, which is absurd, and it was, like, a lot of British kids running around hitting each other with polystyrene baseball bats. It was such a theatrical version of New York, of the gangs in New York, and it was visceral and sort of fun and energetic, and I loved it. I watched it when I was probably about 11, and kind of loved it."

Wow. If I'm being honest, I seem to find books with a "British" tone so formal, therefore, each one feels a bit slow to me in the beginning. Silent Victim started the same way, though it kept me interested enough that I never contemplated quitting. There were points when I bordered on bored, but for the most part, I truly enjoyed it, especially the wicked twists and turns that were so unexpected - I believe I even gasped out loud, OUT LOUD for goodness sakes! But I definitely liked Silent Victim, making guesses and assumptions that were mostly wrong; no regret here.

One prize.....12 fighters......only one will survive!
Ok so I happened to stumble upon this, as a fan of combat sports the cover caught my attention. The film is a British, hard hitting round by round, tournament fight fest, with plenty of action, blood and intensity.
My only problem is that the story is a little too weak although rich people betting on a single fighter doesn't really need explaining.
Winning fighter loots £500,000.

This is something I recommend viewers watch at least once if your able to find it.

I was really surprised this came out in the 60s. I would have assumed it came out just before punk broke properly in the late 70s. Considering some of the music coming out of America at that same time, for this to come out with its passion and anger is frankly astounding. I Wanna Be Your Dog is a rock and roll classic, as is No Fun. It beggars belief how long it took British bands to cotton on to this new style of music.
