A very strange book
The premise for this book was strong - a number of suspiciously intellectually/artistically gifted children are identified in Elizabethan England and rather than being sent to their death as ordered, they are secreted away somewhere where their gifts can be nurtured. The country estate of Rotherweird is their destination.
However, the book that follows doesn't really pick up on this premise, and instead the book is more of a modern day Little England countryside romp. For within the area surrounding Rotherweird (now a private town cut off from the rest of British rule) there are access points to a secret other world, where a number of odd creatures are known to reside.
The plot relies on a number of tenuous crossword-type anagrams (but as everyone has such an unusual name, spotting them is impossible) and ridiculous puzzles as to be quite annoying.
A mysterious outsider has arrived and started to upset the introvert community, and more and more of the population begin to find odd relics or events, and once they start to team up they piece them together.
There is very little to distinguish the characters, and I frequently had to try and remember who was who from Finch, Flask, Fanguin, Ferensen, as well as the two almost identical young female characters.
A very frustrating read.

I have to be honest and say I am not one for reading books based on animals/pets.

However, with my current research on British/American forces I thought it would be a good idea; given the fact I have/had no knowledge of dog/handler in the forces. It was such a great read. After reading heavy books based on Afghanistan/Iraq about Soldiers being shot at, severely wounded, and sometimes being blown up, it was good to read an easy-reading book. The chemistry between Will and Buster was well addressed; Will's narration on Buster's emotions was both funny and warm. I was actually falling in love with a dog I hadn't met. But, this journey, although it was based on Buster, wouldn't have succeeded had the chemistry and understanding not have being as blunt. Will Barrow is clearly a dog lover and to work alongside a dog with as much as energy is a bonus. I am glad they made it back to England without neither been injured.

I did notice that quite a lot of the reviews claim this book to be "boring" without "much happening (action)."
Well, I can assure you, it is much more of a pleasure in reading this book, having a happy journey and ending, than reading those whose lives have changed drastically and/or ended.

Based upon my past experiences with Judd Apatow movies, I knew what I was in for: witty banter, great “one-liners”, and lots of “oh dear god” moments. And, as with all of Apatow’s movies, I wasn’t disappointed.

The movie follows the love story of Tom (Jason Segel) and Violet (Emily Blunt). Tom is your typical Jewish geeky guy while Violet is your educated British ideal. Both meet at a New Year’s Eve party dressed as their respective made-up superheros and an unlikely romance blossoms forth. Where the movie set forth with the sweet set up of their engagement, from there it follows an utterly unique and random path. For one reason or another, their wedding is postponed and delayed. Family deaths ensue, hunting escapes and knitted sweaters happen, toes are lost, but, as with all romantic-comedies, the happy ending prevails.

Segel and Chris Pratt provide for excellent witty banter and dramatics while Blunt and Alison Brie make for a fantastic sisterly pair. Regardless if you cry from the cheesy sweetness of it all or from the hilarity of Segel’s antics, this movie provides for great entertainment all around.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars and yes, I will be using many of the movie’s quotes as part of my daily repertoire.
