Alison Pink (7 KP) rated Lean Mean Thirteen (Stephanie Plum, #13) in Books
Jan 15, 2018
The 13th book sees the return on Dickie Orr as a main character in the series. Maybe I shouldn't say return, Dickie has been mentioned & appeared in several of the previous PLum novels, but in this one he is front & center. Dickie is unknowingly involved in a drug smuggling, gun running, money laundering business that is fronted by his law firm. As usual Stephanie pulls herself into the mix in a strange way & eventually finds herself being chased by mafioso armed with flame throwers.
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2163 KP) rated Delete All Suspects (Turing Hopper, #4) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
A young man is serious injured in a hit and run, and his grandmother hires PI Tim to find out why. Is it related to his computer business? Tim will turn to his AIP friend Turing Hopper to find out. Another great book in a great series. Wish there were more. Read them in order because it's fun watching all the characters grow over time.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2163 KP) rated Deadly Appraisal (Josie Prescott Antiques Mystery, #2) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Josie Prescott is hoping that hosting a benefit auction fundraiser will help her antique business. But when someone is poisoned during the auction, Josie becomes involved in a second murder instead. Even worse, the police think she might have been the target. It took me a little while to get into the book, but the story was good and the characters are strong.

Andy K (10821 KP) rated Hard Times (1975) in Movies
Aug 11, 2018
A simple period drama that works
Street brawler Charles Bronson teams up with hustler James Coburn in this very good drama. Depression era New Orleans is the setting for this interesting drama following two men's unlikely partnership. They have opposed personalities, but makes things work for the purposes of their business relationship. When Coburn gets in some trouble, it is unknown whether Bronson will end up helping him out.
Strong acting throughout kept me very well entertained by this one.

Remy Tankel Carroll (36 KP) rated The Marriage Bureau: True Stories From 1940s London Matchmakers in Books
Dec 19, 2018
I loved this book. It's an original topic and a great story about 2 female entrepreneurs in a time when the business world was mostly dominated by men. It is well written and well researched. It's fascinating to see what people deemed important in a mate during a time of war. I think my favorite part was reading some of the actual requests that were written during the interview. It just goes to show that everyone has someone out there who's his or her perfect match.
