"I know, I know… indie cred is now out the window. But what can I say? Mark and I saw this film at Christmas 1994 in a movie theater, and I laughed so hard I sweat out 5 lbs of water weight and got rock hard abs in the process. We took a camping road trip to the mountains and almost froze to death because of it. I’ve seen it probably 20-plus times and it just makes me so happy every time."

Full of lines that beg to be shared with friends
A little gross, but a lot of fun
I read this book during a camping trip in which I constantly bugged my family by reading lines aloud to them. If you're looking for a fun, non-fiction book to read, this is a great choice. While it does go into some super gross details (it's about dead bodies), I learned so much. The chapter on how bodies are prepared for funerals was especially interesting to me.

Story: Killing Ground starts when couple Ian (Meadows) and Samantha (Dyer) head off for a romantic camping trip, learning they are not the only couple on the grounds they look to stay out of the others way, only to never see them return to their grounds. Scotty (Pedersen) and Tood (Glenane) are two locals of the area that come off shady, also have had run ins with the law.

We know something happened to the family in the camp next door and when Ian and Samantha find their baby wandering around the area. Soon they will be fighting for their lives against the criminal psychopaths that enjoy hunting.

Thoughts on Killing Ground

Characters – Ian is a doctor who along with his girlfriend goes on the camping trip, he knows how to survive any injuries which makes him the one that could help survive the attack because o his logical decision making process. Samantha is the girlfriend that is using the trip for a big moment only to find herself needing to fight to survive. Scotty is the one of the two which seems to be the mastermind, well leader of the two who knows how to control the situation and Tood. Tood is the loose cannon, who comes off simple minded at times and other times he comes off like the psychopath he is meant to be.

Performances – The performances in this film do come off real, we believe the couple Ian Meadows & Harriet Dyer with each decision they must make, we also get scared of both the Aaron’s who gives us uneasy performances through the whole film.

Story – The story here follows three lines to start with, we have the couple heading of to their romantic camping trip, the family on their camping trip, that we know something happens to and the two men who will be committing the crime. To start with this felt annoying, I won’t lie, but soon this just builds the tension through the film as we just want to know what happens, with each twist that connection the stories becoming unsettling. We see the aftermath of what has happened over just putting us through the events, which only continues to make everything extra disturbing. This is a type of story we have seen before, though the fresh approach to this only makes this more interesting to watch even if you want to look away.

Horror – This is easily one of the most disturbing horror films you will see, when you stop to think about anything that happens, what you end up feeling is just uneasy because of what happens off camera, with the tension only making this harder to get through.

Settings – The film takes place in a remote camping ground which gives us the feeling of isolation, with have no phone signal and the humans might not be the only danger here, this is a perfect use of setting.

Special Effects – The effects are used to make each moment look more horrific, they are subtle and effective.

Scene of the Movie – When the couple plan to leave, we have a wonderful shot of Samantha walking away with somebody desperately needing help behind her.

That Moment That Annoyed Me – I didn’t like the opening moments of the three stories, it does work once we are get going.

Final Thoughts – This is one of the most disturbing non-graphic films I have seen, being left to imagine just what happens is even worse than watching it.

Overall: Unsettling and disturbing.

I watched a "horror" movie on Amazon called "Evidence". It's one of those 'home video camera' style movies. I think they make these to conver up for the bad acting and weak storytelling. At the beginning, I get it, guy is trying to film his camping trip with his friends or whatever. But later in the movie there really is no point in it being shot from the home camera. Smh. Sad part is, with a little better acting and some decent cinematography, this could have been a MUCH better movie. The 'home movie' films have gotten old. This one really ISN'T worth a watch.

Corpse in the Airstream Bathroom
When Joe Loudermilk took his retirement from the Los Angeles police department, he and his wife, Dottie, bought an Airstream trailer and hit the road, enjoying the sights and sounds of wherever they decide to visit. They also left their grown kids behind, so returning to their trailer one day, they are surprised to find their youngest son inside. Even more surprising is their son’s announcement that there is a dead body in the bathroom. None of them recognize the corpse. Who is he? Why is their son there?

I grew up camping, so this is one of several series I’ve wanted to try that involve camping. The plot is fun, with plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end. I did find a couple of the characters – Joe especially – annoying. I’m sure he was supposed to be funny, but the fact that he seemed to always be mad at others didn’t make me laugh. Still, this is a minor complaint, and I loved Dottie, our main character. The book was originally released in the mid-90’s, so it provides a fun reminder of just how much our life has changed since then. At least the physical book I read does; I don’t know if anything was updated before the ebook was released. This book has been sitting on my to be read pile for years, and I’m glad I finally pulled it out and read it.

LeftSideCut (3778 KP) rated Battle at Big Rock (2019) in Movies

Battle at Big Rock (2019)
Battle at Big Rock (2019)
2019 | Action, Adventure
Short films are always hard to properly rate, especially as Battle at Big Rock is less than 9 minutes long!
But what we get here is a quick blast of dinosaur action that takes place soon after Fallen Kingdom, and revolves around a family on a camping trip, where they get stuck in the middle of two different dinosaur species fighting.

The short has a couple of cool shots as the chaos unfolds, and is a nice little appetiser for the upcoming third film in the Jurassic World trilogy, and it directly deals with the issue of dinosaurs living amongst us.

I would have given this a 6, but the awesome end credits sequence brings it up a mark.

Trixie and her friends are in Idaho camping with her cousins. There's a rumor that a sasquatch has been spotted in the area, and then one wanders into camp. Or does it? As strange thing keep happening, Trixie needs to figure out what is really happening.

This is a very uneven book plot wise, with a slow start but a very suspenseful second half. The characters are mostly good, except for poor Diana who comes across as a whining scaredy cat - not one of her better books. Overall, this one is okay at best, and then only for die hard fans.

Mothergamer (1514 KP) rated the PlayStation 4 version of Persona 5 Strikers in Video Games

Persona 5 Strikers
Persona 5 Strikers
2021 | Action/Adventure, Role-Playing
This is a sequel to Persona 5. Set 6 months after the events in Persona 5, Joker is ready to reunite with his fellow Phantom Thieves for a Summer vacation camping trip. Things take a turn and they end up on another insane adventure. The road trip aspect of the game is great and the combat system is different too. It's an action hack and slash making exploration of each dungeon known as jails fun. Fusing personas is in there as well as a new bond system that levels up the entire party's skills. The art and story in the game keep the spirit of the Persona 5 game alive, but also form its own unique thing as well making for a fun experience.
