Polyester-era sequel to The Avengers has an ostensibly more serious approach than the parent show - 'a straight show with comic undertones, rather than a spoof with serious overtones' was how Brian Clemens compared the two. Somehow the same magic isn't quite there - it's customary to blame Gareth Hunt as Gambit for being a spare wheel, but it's not Hunt's fault that he isn't Patrick Macnee. You could also argue that the stories are often formulaic and repetitive, but then so were the ones in the original series too. Some of the shows filmed abroad - 'The New Avengers in Canada!' - are definitely a mistake, though.

The worst episodes are dull, but the best ones are at least within spitting distance of the original series and have some of the same kind of offbeat charm - an automated shooting range (where the targets fire back) is infiltrated by enemy agents to lethal effect, a chemical spill causes sewer wildlife to grow to giant size, a enormous knock-out gas bomb is dropped on the centre of London. Still very watchable in a campy sort of way.

Fleeing a tragic accident, Ruby Proulx crosses from Canada to Old Orchard, Maine. She’s run there to meet her mother’s side of the family for the first time. They are about to reopen the family home as a resort for spiritualists, and the summer of 1898 will be make or break for them. But when her past catches up to her and a murder threatens her new home, will Ruby be able to solve any problems?

While I am not a fan of paranormal cozies (because I don’t believe in the things they are based on), I still found this a very fun debut. The characters are charming, and I fell in love with them. Even though the murder comes a little late, I still found Ruby’s introduction to Old Orchard fun, and there is plenty of conflict early on. When the murder does happen, the pace picks up and leads us to a logical conclusion.

A huge thanks to the author for sending me this book for an honest review through Netgalley.

I started read this book with no knowledge about the background of comics, especially for Canada. I have always loved comics, but never really read anything that speaks behind the scenes of how it started, what is the philosophy behind it.

I expected this book to teach me a lot of new things, and help me see the world in a different point of view, and I wasn’t disappointing at all. This is not a book that will deprive you from your sleep at night – in fact, it is one of those books where you read to learn, and it might seem boring at times, but that is only because it is full with information at all times. Wonderful read.

Neena Rose is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter based in Hamilton, Canada. Not too long ago, she released a music video for her “Mannequin” single.

“I want people, especially girls, to gain empowerment from my music. I want it to communicate to them: ‘you’re powerful, you’ve got this.’ I want them to know ‘you can be different. You can do anything’.” – Neena Rose

‘Mannequin’ will be featured on Neena Rose’s upcoming EP, entitled, “333”.

The likable tune tells an interesting tale of a young woman who refuses to be a mannequin or porcelain doll to her significant other.

The song contains a relatable storyline, pleasing vocals, and lush instrumentation scented with an urban-pop fragrance.

“I love it all, but writing lyrics is definitely my favorite part of the process. It’s always been a thing I love to do. Any time I feel any type of way, I’m writing a song. If I’m happy, I’m writing. If I’m sad, I’m writing. At school, someone will say something or I’ll think of something, and I’ll write it down. I feel like I have a million songs on the go in my notes.” – Neena Rose

Angelike Falbo is a 20-year-old singer-songwriter based in Montreal, Canada. Not too long ago, she released a music video for her “Sailors in the Night” single, produced by Vito Luprano (Celine Dion).

“Are we gone with the breeze? Do we swim like the seas? Are we strong like the trees as our leaves are steady falling?” – lyrics

The likable tune contains a relatable storyline, ear-welcoming vocals, and vibey instrumentation flavored with commercial and electro-pop elements.

Since then, the bubbly songstress has appeared on Season 3 of La Voix—Quebec’s version of The Voice, where she came in at number 2.

They Came From Within
Shivers- is a distubing, terrorfying, horrorfying, sci-fi film directed by David Cronenberg and it was Cronenberg's first featured film and what a way to start.

The plot: After a scientist living in a posh apartment complex slaughters a teen girl and kills himself, investigators discover that the murderer had been carrying on experiments involving deadly parasites. Roger St. Luc (Paul Hampton), a doctor living in the building, and his aide, Nurse Forsythe (Lynn Lowry), then realize that the parasites are on the loose, attacking fellow tenants. And those who become hosts turn into erotically obsessed maniacs who pass the bugs on through violent sex.

It was also known as The Parasite Murders and They Came from Within, and, for the French-Canadian distribution, Frissons). The original shooting title was Orgy of the Blood Parasites.

Shivers was Cronenberg's first feature film, and was the most profitable Canadian film made to date in 1975, but was so controversial that the Parliament of Canada debated its social and artistic value and effect upon society, because of objections to its sexual and violent content.

Its disturbing but a excellent film.

I grew up in the 90s with Backstreet Boys, 98 degrees and Nsync. Justin Timberlake would have been my pick but I am def a girl fan of all the 90s chicks and love Jessica Simpson too. This book is boys band but LGBTQ and I am here for it!

The cover is super fun and I love the colors and the energy of the singers on stage. I don't read a lot of famous teen band books that are famous so this was a different YA read that had teens on a strict schedule making them present themselves as model citizens to the public. I love that the love situation in the book is a boy from the opening band and it makes you wonder where are the parents but whatevs teens will be teens.

The book taking place in Canada was also a fun aspect of the story since I have never been and love reading stories of places I haven't visited before. Def recommend this YA read 10 out of ten! The boys are all rock stars for sure<3<3<3

Fish-Boy: An Inuit Folk Tale by Vanita Oelschlager is very cute story with colorful and delightful illustrations. In this story, an old Inuit man tells the story of Fish Boy. The Arctic region of North America is a land of long days, icy cold, hardy people and peculiar creatures. The Inuit people there have made traditional use of remarkable folk tales to find truth and explain the mysteries of an astonishing world.

In Fish-Boy, An Inuit Folk Tale, Vanita Oelschlager retells a tale passed down by a wise old Inuit. It's an origin story involving a little magic and a very odd boy with a large heart for friendship. On a journey with his new father, he must confront misfortune and the malice of cold hearted villagers. But he has a way and a lesson for all in the virtues of kindness and hospitality.

This book as it teaches kindness and a folk tale about a region that covers most of Canada. It can be used as a tool to teach children about folk tells and about different cultures and acceptance.

I received this ARC from Vanita Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I give this book 4/5 stars.

Camille Miller is a German-born singer-songwriter who was raised on military bases all over Canada. Not too long ago, she released a cool indie-alternative tune, entitled, “Cover Me”.

“Stand before me, let me your soul. Let me feel the warmth of your touch. Hearts unguarded, bodies perfect in their flaws. I can’t do this on my own. Modern life through the telephone staring in and fading out. We’re all covered in lonely, we’re all covered in doubt.” – lyrics

‘Cover Me’ contains a relatable narrative, pleasing vocals, and lush instrumentation flavored with indie-pop and alternative elements. Also, the track possesses a tasty guitar solo.

“Thinking about how technology and social media sometimes make us doubt ourselves. How something that can brilliantly bring us together, can also keep us separated in ways we have never experienced before. How the need and want of human interaction is so important and deeply needed.” – Camille Miller

Camille Miller was brought up on a hearty diet of Motown, Carly Simon, The Carpenters, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and the Rolling Stones.

With the sound of these greats of yesteryear oozing through her veins, she continues her global trend of turning listeners into lifelong fans.

Virginia To Vegas (Derik Baker) is a singer-songwriter based in Toronto, Canada. Not too long ago, he released a lovely pop tune, entitled, “Just Friends”.

“Maybe, we can go get lost tonight. At least we know that we gave it a try. So why don’t we go out and get a drink in the West End? Smoke a cigarette and talk sh*t about exes. Take a couple of shots and see where the night ends. Stop pretending that we’re just friends.” – lyrics

‘Just Friends’ tells an interesting tale of two friends, a guy, and a girl. Apparently, the guy doesn’t want to be in the friend zone and wants to be more than just a friend to the woman he adores.

Later, he reminds her that one day in the back of a taxi she wanted to kiss him. But due to their friendship, she didn’t.

‘Just Friends’ contains a relatable storyline, ear-welcoming vocals, and danceable instrumentation scented with an electro-pop fragrance.

After being discovered on YouTube, Virginia to Vegas signed to Wax Records in 2013. Since then, he has received critical acclaim and several platinum certifications.

In 2018, he expanded his reach internationally, co-writing the single “IDWK” with blackbear and DVBBS.
