"All That Jazz (1979) is a perfect film, in my book: insanely well acted, incredible art direction, great writing, beautifully shot, just a director firing on all cylinders. Did I mention the amazing song-and-dance sequences? And Bob Fosse does all this, in a movie that is a very autobiographical account of his own struggle juggling: multiple productions, girls, booze, and pills; all of which lead to a series of heart attacks that culminate in the most spectacular and fantastical deathbed scene ever, with Jessica Lange as the loveliest angel of death. Forget Jaws: Roy Scheider as Joe Gideon, Fosse’s alter ego, is equal parts heroic captain and man-eating shark in this masterpiece."

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
2021 | Action, Drama
The second of Marvel's post-Endgame TV shows s on Disney+ (after WandaVision), and this is a very different beast to its predecessor.

Whereas WandaVision was a (at times, plain weird) sitcomesque format with a central mystery of just what the heck is going on, this sets its stall out right from the start, with the show exploring the ramifications of what-is-now-known-as The Blip, whole also spending a large portion of the episodes dealing with Captain America's legacy, and with the super-soldier serum that first made him.

It also brings back some old characters from the movies (hello, Zemo. Hello, Sharon Carter) giving them further characterisation than they have had to date.

David McK (3576 KP) rated Thor: Ragnarok (2017) in Movies

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
2017 | Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Fifth entry in Marvel's 'Phase 3' (that started with Captain America: Civil War), and the last film to star Chris Hemsworth's Thor until Avengers: Infinity War (a whole 2 movies later), that sees Thor take on a more comedic persona than before.

This is also the one that takes inspiration from Planet Hulk as part of its plot thread, in which Thor is forced to partake in Gladiatorial combat against the Hulk (making an appearance for the first time since Age of Ultron) - "he's a friend from work!" - just as Cate Blanchett's Hela is freed from her imprisonment following the death (spoiler!) of a major character early on, and just as she starts a war against Asgard.

After the deadly shootout in The Devil's Rejects, the Rejects miraculously survive and face trial. All three are given the death penalty or life sentences. Due to SId Haig's health, Captain Spaulding does not a huge part, but his performance is still extremely memorable. Otis Driftwood takes center stage as he regathers his family after a massacre leading to his escape from prison. On the run, Otis, Baby, and Wolfman (don't ask) hide out in a Mexican town because they love killing people for sport. Anyway, director Rob Zombie once again crafts a love letter to 70s exploitation films even if he never intended to make another chapter to the House of 1000 Corpses series.
