Codenames
2015 | Card Game, Deduction, Party Game, Spies / Espionage, Word Game
Codenames is one of my top party games as it's one of the few that doesn't lose its lustre over multiple plays. Unlike games like Cards against humanity, there's actual skill involved with its clue choices. Two teams face off with one member from each team acting as a clue giver. The cluegiver aka spy master tried to come up with a word that can relate to selected phrases in a 5x5 grid. First team to guess all of its card wins. There definitely can be a skill difference between cluegivers, but the mind games of tryung to guess what your team will associate with your clue can result in hilarious moments.

Fun theme
Do you like Rummy, this is a upgraded twist on it.
Number 5 in the series... It's classic rummy with a twist; players playing melds and layoffs of Evidence cards to score points. Move the car to different locations and try to find the notorious bandits. Simple but with slightly more strategy and therefore more interesting. Can be played with young and old alike. There are more in this series so if you enjoy this you might like the others:

Mystery Rummy: Jack the Ripper
Mystery Rummy: Murders in the Rue Morgue
Mystery Rummy: Jekyll & Hyde
Mystery Rummy: Al Capone and the Chicago Underworld

1993 | Card Game, Collectible Components, Fantasy, Fighting
This is a bit of a difficult game to learn because the possibilities are endless. It's a deck building game that has been around for years so there's literally thousands of cards at your disposal depending on the game format you want to play. It can be as simple as picking up a starter deck that is premade and playing against someone else who has a deck in the same format. The game is very good at motivating younger children to read as well as helping with basic math skills. My nephews have been playing along with adults since they were very young around 8 or so and still love playing to this day and they are 13+.

Complicated
Gathering dust
Too complicated for me
I was really excited to get this game but we just couldn’t get to grips with it.
We tried and tried, we tried with different people but we just couldn’t get it.
Thankfully when it was regifted it made a great gift and I know it’s given its new owners hours and hours of fun.
Who knows maybe they’ll get it out when I visit them and then I can come back change this review and talk about how great it is (note if that happens those cards may find their way back to me)
