I did not want to stop reading until I finished the entire thing. There were so many questions that needed to be answered and if you stick with it they all do get answered. (0 more)
The Langoliers themselves did not seem realistic, I could not form an image in my head of them based off of the descriptions given. (0 more)
Just Because
Stephen King does it once again with this book. The first short story in Four Past Midnight will keep readers up well past midnight trying to finish it in one sitting.

When a plane flies through a natural phenomenon mistaken for the Aurora Boralice something very strange happens. All of the passengers (including the piolet) who were awake disappear and only those who were asleep find themselves still on the plane. This mismatched group must figure out how to land the plane safely and decide what just happened. They manage to land in a strange area that resembles an airport like what they are used to but there are no people, sounds carry weird, and the food is tasteless, plus there is a chewing noise getting closer and closer to them.

I know that the anime is popular, but I haven't gotten around to watching it yet. I wasn't sure that I'd like the manga, but I grabbed volume 1 recently, and was pleasantly surprised! I had expected it to be like a textbook cookbook type of manga that gets too into the recipes and ends up being boring. However, Food Wars is a good mix and keeps the storyline light and interesting. You're not turning page after page of the same diagrammed, cutely drawn recipe. The main characters do talk their way through their cooking times, but it's not overly drawn out. Some manga series have that magical "it" factor, and some definitely don't. This one seems to have it. It's cute, funny, has a good protagonist, and everything that revolves around him on the outskirts is interesting in its own way, as well. There's enough to carry an actual story, and enough motion in the plot to keep the action moving. Volume 1 also includes the short that was originally featured in Shonen Jump, but I'm glad the details were reworked. Overall, I think it will be a cute series.

The Secrets We Keep is a story that deals with the aftermath of suicide, with the addition of a May-to-December couple of main characters. This is NOT a light read. It is somber and full of reflection.

That side of the story is really well written. The emotions that pour off each page with make you stop and think. However, for me, I found it overshadowed the romance side of things. I didn't really feel a connection between our main two. There was no build up to them individually, rather just a carry on from the feelings they were dealing with regarding Lacy. There is an epilogue with them, so you do get something, it just didn't exactly work for me.

The writing, though, is wonderful, and there were no mistakes that disrupted my reading. The story is a great one, and the pacing is smooth. The characters themselves will interest and intrigue you. I have no hesitation in recommending this book!

Masterpiece
There is little I can say that has not already been said about The Lord of the Rings. It is an epic story of friendship, love, betrayal, war and essentially a coming of age journey. Middle earth and all its inhabitants come alive in your hands...you are transported to a world in chaos, a world of change where nothing is certain. Battle with dwarfs and elves, fight along side men who are impossibly brave and flawed and cry as the tiniest of people carry the biggest of burdens.
This book and the subsequent movies based on the world have been well quoted and are almost inbedded in British culture.
I envy those who haven't read them yet..you have a fantastic journey ahead. It will not be easy (this is not light reading) but it will be more than worth it. Enjoy, and give the elves my love.
