Great for fans of Perks of Being a Wallflower!

Trigger warning. This book deals with some deep stuff.

This was a super interesting idea. The story was deep, and it was the first book I've ever come across that told its story through letters to dead celebrities. So bonus points there for sure!
The overall story reminded me a lot of Perks of Being a Wallflower, which is one of my all time favorites.

I did not LOVE the POV/writing of the book but that wasn't because the author didn't do well. In fact I'd say that means she did amazing given the book is told from the POV of a teenage girl. She's young, and the writing reflects that. So while it wasn't my personal cup of tea, it made sense for the book. Bear that in mind when going into this one.

We follow Laurel venting to dead celebrities about her life and the loss of her sister. How did she die? Why does Laurel feel guilty? Why isn't her mom around anymore? Through letters to her idols she reminisces and vents, and we get to see her navigate life and relationships without her big sister.

*Potential trigger warnings for domestic abuse, rape, molestation, drug/alcohol use, and suicide.

Have a Good Trip: Adventures in Psychedelics (2020)

Fun but misses some of the serious side
There’s a lot of fun to be had watching this documentary, mainly from the wacky tales recounted by fairly well known celebrities and the way they’re retold (silly cartoons or acted out by other known celebrities). This is definitely not a serious documentary warning you of the dangers of drugs, it’s more just a light hearted entertaining look at celebrity experiences of LSD. And it definitely is funny. There’s a lot of times I laughed out loud watching this, mainly at the sheer bizarreness of it all. You can tell as well that they’ve obviously spent a lot of money on the production of this film, as there’s a lot of big name stars in this and it looks like a very slick production.

The problem is that this film almost seems to be highlighting the benefits or the fun side of taking these drugs. There are some scientific explanations and some talk about negative side effects, but they almost seem to be pushed to one side in favour of telling the humorous side. And this is what this film is lacking, that “drugs are bad” spiel to at least provide a more balanced view.

A place to escape
Instagram is a good place to escape for a bit with nice pictures and videos of travel and fun things to do all over the world, or just a nice place to keep up with your friends or favorite celebrities. It's got a little bit for everyone and is pretty user friendly. You can add your own pictures or 60 second videos to your timeline or you can even add to a story in real-time. If you want to interact on the spot there is also a live feature. It's a great app for everyone.

Great time waster
I believe Instagram is great to follow the lives of people you don't always see or celebrities life's. Yes it is a very edited view of people's lives but it is great to sit and lose your time to. It's also great to be able to search different tags that can relate to your life more. This then makes it more personal to you. It's an easy to follow app as well. The only thing it doesn't really show clearly is how long ago that picture was posted so you could be looking at pictures that are days old.

This is one of the Talk Radio Shows that I dearly loved when I stopped listening to talk radio as much. Then, all of a sudden, there is this wonderful invention called a podcast. The Wait Wait podcast allows me to listen to the latest episode at my leisure and take it in with my wife normally while we eat supper.

The topics are a round up of the week's events. The celebrities are entertaining and the guests are always engaged and wonderful.

I will eventually get to see Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me Live - it is part of the bucket list.

Podcast of Talk and Rock N Roll
I have been a fan of Chris Jericho's since I first saw him on WCW back in the day. Followed him through his move to WWE and then when I stopped watching wrestling he fell off my radar.

Podcasts are amazing for catching back up with celebrities that were born to talk. And talk he does. Jericho uses his connections in the music industry and the wrestling world to bring stars of yesterday and today onto the airwaves. His interviews are amazing, thought-provoking, and real. He gets his guests involved in long-form conversations that draw out stories that they might not have told otherwise.
