Great for tracking books (0 more)
Although I hear many people talking great things about Goodreads, I feel there isn't as much to offer as much as others suggest. I have Goodreads and I have been using it for nearly three years now but the only thing I use it for is tracking what books I read in the year. You can create a reading challenge where you set yourself a target of how many books you want to read in the year and Goodreads will track it and let you know whether you are in schedule or not.

As useful as that is, I can't say I use Goodreads for much else. I have a few friends on there who recommended it to me in the first place and a few Facebook friends. But that's it. No one really adds me and I don't really know how to find other people.

There a supposedly groups that you can join but my app will not let me do it. I have tried reinstalling the app and contacting Goodreads about the issue but they never got back to me.

It is also different on the internet as it is in the app so it would be wise getting the app if you want the full benefit off Goodreads.

I am having a difficult time writing a review for Rise of the Hearts by Antoine Bonner. The premise of this book is not new but the summary was worded well enough that I was looking forward to reading it. The cover caught my eye and made me want to read it even more.

Unfortunately, it was a challenge to finish it.

I did not relate to or care about any of the characters. The story did not flow well. I had trouble following the story and was confused about what was going on. I reread sections to see if I could figure out the story. I was never able to follow the plot.

This is NOT a young adult (YA) book. Based on the description, I had mistakenly thought it was appropriate for younger readers. It is not and it is marketed as an adult book. There are several passages that are not appropriate for young adults.

The book was only 198 pages. I was not very far in when I was considering stopping. I continued and struggled through the entire book. On the last few pages I allowed myself to just skim it because I was so lost.

There's a lot of ice....
Firstly, I have to admit that this would not have been my first choice of reading material. You see, I'm doing my local library's reading challenge at the moment, and I picked this book up for the 'not my bag' element. I really thought that it wouldn't be 'my bag' at all - but I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the interactions with the sailors, and the little history lessons were really interesting. There was a lot of description though. In a 220 page book, you would think that there would be only so many ways to describe ice: what it looks like, what it sounds like, what it smells like, how it breaks up, how it doesn't break up. You name it, he described it. I have to admit to skim reading a fair bit of this. There's only so much one person can take.
Would I recommend it? I don't know. I don't think I know anyone who is that into ice, to be honest.
I do have a confession to make, though. I'm going to Finland in the summer for a long weekend, so I might just try and check out some of this history for myself!

Major disappointment
Going in I must tell you I am one of the biggest Eastwood fans out there, so if anyone should have loved this movie it would have been me.

Other than the expected climax there is really not much to like here. I think we all take it for granted when we see professional skiers, or tennis players that thy make their jobs look so easy. The same is the case with actors. Eastwood's decision to cast the real-life heroes to play themselves rather than professional actors might have seemed like a good idea at the time, but it did not serve this film well AT ALL. Maybe if the screenplay would have been better or even the flow of the story would have been more cohesive it would not have stood out as much.

The climax of the film is certainly riveting and emotional; however, the 95 minutes it took to get there was just not that exciting.

I certainly don't take away anything from the heroism these men displayed or the courage they have in life. We should all step up to the challenge when presented with these events.

Looks like I'll have to go back and watch American Sniper.

One day I was just looking online through random books that I could read and I came across this trilogy and it sparked my interest. I thought I would give this book a go. All I knew about it was that it was an erotic twist on a fairytale, I thought it might even be quite sweet...wow! One word comes to mind after reading this book...HARSH! To sum it up I would say 'torture-porn', and how tortured these characters indeed were. Although the story was well written it went beyond enjoyment and straight to 'I don't think I can even finish this book, it's pretty horrendous!'. But I stuck it out and finished it with a gob-smacked expression on my face. This isn't a sweet, fluffy and easy-to-read novel, its hard-core and sadistic. This review sounds like I didn't like the book yet I gave it 3 stars...this is because I really liked the challenge of getting through this book and it left me in shock, so many books i finish with a shrug then move on but this book is definitely something to remember. I am now reading a comedy inbetween carrying on with the series as even I feel like the characters need a break.
