Expectation was a book that really sneaked up on me. I started reading it, and discovered that I didn’t actually want to stop. It was fascinating.

It looks at the lives of three women: Hannah, Cate and Lissa, who are best friends. Hannah and Cate have known one another since childhood, and they meet Lissa at university. They all come from diverse backgrounds, and they all go on to do very different things after they graduate. We see the pressure that they all feel to succeed on their chosen paths, and the ways that they deal with both their successes and failures at home and at work.

This is a book that has stayed with me since I finished reading it a couple of weeks ago. Their life choices struck a chord of recognition in me, even though my own life is nothing like the three women. It made me think about how we all start off thinking our lives will go down one particular path, and invariably, things happen that completely change what we want.

Expectation is beautifully written, and I often lost myself completely in the story. I liked the slow burn, and the way that the book would go back to childhood or university years in order to emphasise a characters decision in the present. The ending was a real affirmation of the strength and longevity of female friendship. Just my kind of book.

Another unnecessary remake of a childhood classic.
When I originally saw the trailer for this pop up on YouTube, my heart swelled with happiness and the child in me grinned from ear to ear. So many memories came back and flooded my heart and mind. Then, I actually watched this movie. It struggled for me from the beginning as it was instantly clear the star wasn't the elephant with big ears, but rather a typecast Danny Devito, Collin Farrell with a terrible southern accent, his women empowerment staple daughter, and his son that is just kinda there. The anthropomorphism of the animated film is gone, and without it, the key scenes lifted from the original don't carry the emotional weight they did. Much of the story makes little to no sense, including the climax and tie everything up in a neat bow ending. All the PC nonsense and making a statement about current social and political issues isn't needed. It's a kids movie. Once it was clear that this was Disney making a movie about evil corporations buying up small entities to make a monopoly, I checked out mentally from the obvious irony. As the credits rolled, I was just left with an empty feeling, my swollen heart shrunk and my grin gone. Memories from my childhood had been stamped out by Disney Inc. in search of the almighty dollar with yet another unnecessary and bad remake.

An Updated Adventure
I remember playing the original Ratchet and Clank game on PS1 as a kid and I liked it at the time, but I never followed the series and I actually haven't played a Ratchet game since, so to return to the game 20 years later in glorious high definition is a treat. The new game is essentially a remake of the original and it is just as fun as I remember it being the first time. The new weapons are cool, the visuals are breath-taking and the voice acting is good too. If you have young children or just want to relive your own childhood, this is definitely recommended.

A Dragon Sized 10 outta 10
Remembered playing this game on my PS1 back when I was 8 years old and spending absolutely hours and hours attempting to complete these games. So when I saw that they we're being revamped i COULDN'T wait to spend even more hours playing these games. It really took me back to my childhood, the characters, the different characters and the same frustration when I can't catch those pesky egg-stealers (I mean come on, do they really need those Dragon Eggs really?).
Loved playing it, didn't really enjoy waiting 3 hours for it to download on my PS4 however, but it was so worth it in the end!

I have no words to express how amazing this movie was how it affected me and brought me back to my childhood.
I sat there in the cinema on the edge of my seat smiling and laughing to myself because of how amazing it was.
The one thing I did not expect was that the dad was residing in Pikachu the entire time and he didn't know either. It was nice seeing them spend time together because of how far apart they were in the beginning.

If they ever do a second movie I will be there at the front of the queue ready to buy my ticket.

JURASSIC PARK (the good one)
Back in 1993 Steven Spielberg breathed life into everybody's childhood obsession with dinosaurs with ground breaking CGI during its release which still holds up today.

Jurassic park is story of a mans dream to bring back the Jurassic age on an (presumably) uninhabited island. After inviting his grandchildren, Dr alan Grant an archaeologist, ellie satler another archaeologist and ian malcolm who's just along for the ride to witness this ground-breaking creation, they quickly become endangered when the parks security parameters fail and they have to outrun and out smart their way to safety with a dinosaur at every turn, and a kitchen scene you'll never forget (that's right, kitchen!)
