"To Kill a Mockingbird is way up there, but that’s also like an On the Waterfront kind of classic movie, also with a personal journey set against a bigger social issue — racism — but I’m going to go instead with Ordinary People, directed by Robert Redford with Mary Tyler Moore, Timothy Hutton who won an Oscar — one of the youngest Oscar winners I think — Donald Sutherland, and Judd Hirsch playing the psychiatrist."

"Again, everybody dies. That is such the best, most-great formula for a true masterpiece film. A classic film should leave you thinking, “How in the hell did this idea ever get financing?” The director, Brad Anderson, does more with his small budget than most movies do with huge, fat mountains of cash. The moment the credits start to roll, I want to watch the whole story over again."

A beautifully crafted ghost story full of atmosphere and vivid poignancy. The themes it portrays about war and grief are unsentimentalised yet moving. The backdrop of cold, winter and snow are on one hand symbolic of emotion but on the other are personnified to become almost a second protagonist. I'm a huge fan of classic ghost stories and loved Mosse's multi-layered tale with its historic and emotional twists.

Though there were sections that don't feature in the public consciousness a much as others (mainly due I suppose to how much they feature in the 1939 classic movie adaptation.) this book was precisely what I was expecting and hoping it would be, wonderfully whimsical with a dash of the macabre. Now I'm more excited than ever to continue through the 13 other books in L Frank Baum's Oz series!

"Oh I just love Fantasia. I played that for my nephew when he was two, and I don’t believe in popping children in front of the television as a babysitter, but I feel like, you know what? “I’m introducing you to classical music; I’m introducing you to classic cartoons, so watch it!” It’s a beautiful way to take music and to take your mind to a place of no words."

"Classic, hugely influential series which went on to spawn more series, films, sneakers, video games, etc. Hideaki Anno is a genius. It has references to Kabbalah, Christianity and psychology plus incredible fight sequences and a pet penguin. I was intrigued from the first time I saw the “Tree of Life” in the opening credits. The main characters Shinji Ikari and Rei Ayanami are iconic and certainly influenced Neo Yokio."
