"It has a strange beauty about it. It has a deceptively simple story. It has all the classic trademarks of someone who introduces you to a special, magical world, and yet you are able to then see your own world completely differently. There’s always something slightly uncanny about what Powell and Pressburger did — if you think about The Red Shoes or The Tales of Hoffman, and things later like Peeping Tom, films like that. They’re just extraordinary."

"If you haven’t read Trollope, this is a good place to begin. Along with Can You Forgive Her?, The Eustace Diamonds is among the most delicious and contemporary of Trollope’s Palliser novels, and like any great classic, it’s crammed to bursting with characters who are remarkably like people you know. Well, maybe you don’t know anyone like Lizzie Eustace—a young woman who cares more about money and jewels than anything else—but I’m afraid I do."

"I wanted to throw in a film as well and this is a real classic. There’s a lot to say about it but what I really love is the location. It takes place in a vaguely French/Italian/Mediterranean environment. It’s like a fantastical Amalfi coast or Cote d’Azur seen through the eyes of a Japanese genius. Like all Miyazaki, it can be appreciated by people of any age and has deep, moving insights about growing up."

"I met Will Smith twice. I didn't talk to him for too long but I was trying to let him know that my age group grew up watching him - he was the coolest guy on television and the coolest guy in movies. One of the classic moments on The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air was when his dad was supposed to take him on the road but never showed up and [Smith] started crying to Uncle Phil."

Sometimes it isn’t easy to write a review of a novel that is always one of the first to come to mind when someone asks what is my favorite book of all-time favorite. But since this is my 300th blog post (already?), I thought the time was due to write about Joseph Heller’s iconic novel, Catch-22. You can read my review here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2018/02/13/my-300th-post-review-of-a-modern-classic/

When Charlotte Brontë, author of the classic novel "Jane Eyre", died in 1855, she left behind 20 pages of a manuscript of a new novel, along with some other scraps of pieces she had been working on. Almost 150 years later in 2003, Irish author Clare Boylan took it upon herself to complete what Charlotte had begun. In honor of my wedding anniversary, I thought I’d update one of my older reviews that I consider a classic love story. The one I picked is Marina Lewycka’s second novel “Two Caravans,” which American audiences you may know as “Strawberry Fields.” While this book isn’t quite as good as her debut novel, it certainly is fun! You can read my revised review on my blog here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2014/08/05/a-berry-nice-book/

Hilarious fish out of water Eddie Murphy vehicle that hits all the right notes.
Murphy produces his best African Prince impersonation with aplomb and dazzles the audience with that wide smile whenever he is onscreen and rivals Tom Cruise's smile st times.
This is some of Eddie's best work along side Trading Places and Beverley Hills Cop and this film was made at the height of his career.
Its Comedy Gold and a stone cold classic.

A Classic Yet Different Zombie Apocalypse
This is my second time watching this season and I enjoyed it just as much now as I did then. The whole show is lined up perfectly and every introduction to new characters is placed out perfectly. The zombies are intense and send a shiver down my spine with every encounter. This is not your average zombie apocalypse.
