Merissa (13194 KP) rated The Current Between Us (Layne Family Duet #1) in Books
Apr 12, 2023
The Current Between Us however, simply overloaded my circuits! (See what I did there? Yeah, not funny, I apologise.) This is pure and simply a love story but with pizzazz! The connection between the two is instantaneous and HOT! I loved how Gage actually changed his ways for no other reason than he couldn't see the reason for keeping them now that he had met the love of his life. I loved how Trent was cautious and almost suspicious of the good thing that came into his life and I could totally see and understand his reaction regarding the differences between himself and Gage.
The supporting characters in this are also superb, Auntie Crazy (love that), Rhonny, Hunter (love him) and Emalynn - how can you not fall in love with each and every character in this book?
This story pulls you in, gets you thinking one way and then suckers you, right in the stomach. The world literally dropped out from beneath me when I read this part and saw the cracks forming. It was heartbreaking. I love that a book can get to me this way.
I'm not going to say anything else about the plot as I don't want to give away any spoilers and trust me when I say that you really should read this for yourself because it is cracking.
So, in summary, if you want a smokin' hot, romantic, gorgeous book that is also incredibly good value for money, then I can highly recommend any of Kindle Alexander's works!

Book Divas (227 KP) rated Witch Hunt (The Witch-Game, #2) in Books
Dec 12, 2017
Kasi Blake has once again out done herself and I loved reading this book. This well written story line has us tagging along with high school news reporter Starr who has a knack for digging up the truth no matter what the cost. Her latest news report has made her a complete outcast and the majority of her classmates now despise her. Thankfully, she still has her best friend Lily.
Now Starr has set her sights on the Squad which her love interest Dylan is a part of and once she hears that the game of the fox and the hounds is about to start she knows something is definitely up and nothing will get in the way of her learning what the Squad is truly up to. Starr has no idea of the shocking truths she'll uncover along the way.
This stand alone book is a fast paced read and the characters are outstanding. Get ready to get tangled in this author's web.

Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated Etiquette & Espionage (Finishing School, #1) in Books
Apr 27, 2018
E&E was a very cute and clever story. It had everything: awesome characters, a villain you love to hate, mystery, adventure, surprises, romance, humor, and wonderful descriptions. Also, Werewolves and vampires. But not the sparkly modern-day super-sexy kind… the kind that will kill you. Oh yeah, also, they’re the professors.
And the students of the school Sophronia goes to?… they live in the sky. How cool is that? I loved Sophronia so much, and she reminded me of myself when I was nine (though she was like fourteen or something)
Suffice to say, I wanted to transfer to that finishing school instead of my boring old university.
Content/Recommendation: Clean! Recommend to ages 13+ (keep in mind, I’m 21 and I loved it).
Audio: The reader, Moira Quirk, was excellent! Wonderful use of accent and inflection, and very talented. Looking forward to hearing more of her voice acting.

Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) in Books
Apr 27, 2018
A very good aspect of Hex Hall was the mystery side. I had no idea who the “bad guy” was (there turned out to be more than one!) until the very end, and I had no idea what was going to happen.
My only complaint was the ending: it wasn’t very good. It left unanswered questions, and there was no closure. It just… ended. Like the ending of a chapter, it felt like there should have been at least one more paragraph. One more paragraph to make you feel like Sophie was confident and knew what she was doing, and that everything was going to turn out right. But… it ended slightly lame.
Except the ending (as in the very last two pages) Hex Hall was a light funny cute read, and I look forward to the next book in the series.
Content/Recommendation: Clean, some small descriptions of violence. Ages 12-18

HLD (99 KP) rated The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) in Movies
Mar 7, 2018
I've no idea who the target audience for this film is. I definitely enjoyed myself. The story is intriguing, and every scene appears so clean and 'perfect', perhaps a mirror of the life Colin Farrell's character wishes to portray.
This is such a different kind of viewing experience that it's best you watch it for yourself and draw your own conclusions. I would, however, think twice before calling this a comedy, or assuming that it falls anywhere near the comedy genre.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2398 KP) rated Toasting Up Trouble (Dinner Club Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
This debut got off to a bit of a slow start, but once the murder happened, it picked up. There were some good twists and surprises before we reached a logical ending. The characters who got a decent amount of page time were well developed, and I’m betting we’ll get to know the rest better in future books in the series.
NOTE: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
