"I’d gone to college because it seemed the group wasn’t going to do anything. But as I left college in ’91, it felt like we were allowed to have fun again. Bands like Stereolab and Suede had started, and we played some concerts with them and got to meet some of the bands that were around in London at that time. By ’93, it was all turning into something interesting—I don’t think they’d come up with that horrible word “Britpop” yet, but there was a new movement of bands. It was before it really broke and got spoiled by getting too commercialized. It still was really just a bunch of people in secondhand clothes getting wasted in Camden, which was fun."

Absolutely dismal survival movie. There was so much wrong with this movie I really don't know where to start. I rate both Elba and Winslet highly and expected so much better! Let's start:-
1. The commercial airlines have cancelled all flights due to the storm, but the intelligent characters and an experienced pilot all decide they can fly through said storm in a much tinier light aircraft, plus the experienced pilot does not bother to file a flight plan! Doh.
2. Even with a broken? leg Winslet seems to easily get through the snow, as does the dog (I have taken my dogs through shallower snow than is on the film, they struggle to get through it, get tired super quick and have icicles stuck all over them).
3. Even though they are walking through snow they appear never to get wet. They seem to have perfectly dry and clean clothes and even shampooed hair.
4. It seems like they are up the mountain for days rather than weeks.
5. I didn't see the love story coming, they didn't seem to have much chemistry. Their connection was not believable.
6. Winslet falls through ice into the lake, she sinks and floats back up. Elba runs to the edge of said hole and manages to drag her out easily despite the weight of her and her clothes. The lake was seemingly firm other than that bit of hole!
7. There is a little house, complete with furniture and even a piano on the mountain but with no roads nearby, go figure? Maybe it flew there in a tornado from Kansas!
I could go on but you get the gist.

A worthy addition to the original story.
This is a beautifully illustrated graphic novel which remains true to the original novel by Margaret Atwood. It seems even more disturbing with the pictures: the starkness of the almost black and white background against the red of the Handmaids clothes, not only makes the Handmaids stand out, it also, for me, highlights their separateness or ‘otherness’.

It’s a while since I read the original book, but the prose in it felt right. It’s not all prose in speech bubbles, there are more in-depth, explanatory short paragraphs - and I think they really worked well.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, and I can see myself reading this again and again - and I might just have to re-read the original too, especially in the lead up to The Testaments.

All about Evie was everything I hoped it would be. I loved the first book (The Miseducation of Evie Epworth - another Pigeonhole read!), and this is a worthy sequel

There’s a great 1970’s atmosphere to this, from the fashion (Evie still loves her clothes!), to the music (she likes some very good music!), to the rather delightful attitudes of the men who work with her (it’s not delightful at all, but she doesn’t let them get to her at all!).

Evie is such a likeable character, and someone I’d be more than happy to know. The characters around her are fun, interesting, and as full of personality as Evie herself.

This is a really happy, uplifting and witty read, and I hope that we’ll see more of Evie soon!

Low prices, really cool unique items at times (0 more)
Things can be cheaply made, long waits for arrival (0 more)
Low prices, sometimes low quality
Wish sometimes has some very neat items although the descriptions do not always accurately represent the products well. Sizes for clothes and shoes are not usually true to size, some items are made very cheaply (but I guess ya get what ya pay for), etc. The wait time for the arrival of your purchases can also be very very long. Sometimes shipping can be pretty cheap which is nice. They also have some products which are a little more expensive but are generally higher quality and they do ship faster. I believe a lot of not all of Wish's products come from overseas; China, etc. Good app but shop wisely and check as many reviews and photos as you can!

The Affair - Season 1
The Affair - Season 1
2014 | Drama
Excellent gripping drama/mystery. The lives of Noah's family and Alison's family become entangled when the bored wannabe author falls for the free spirit, but damaged, waitress. Brilliant depiction of the thrill and excitement of a new relationship but also the hurt inflicted on others as that is revealed.
There is also two timeframes on the go here, which took a little getting used to - one showing the story unravelling, the other future time frame showing the investigation of a murder.
The story is told from two points of view in each episode, giving both characters' sides of the story but also adding in an interesting perspective that each person perceives events differently (what clothes people were wearing, how interactions went etc).
Slightly disappointing ending in that the murder was not solved but this leads nicely in to season 2.

Yaaaaaas Queen! Such a lovely program. Every episode, the Fab Five take a person (gay, strait, undecided, it don matter!) And give them a makeover. But this is not just any makeover, they cover hair, clothes, home, diet and emotions. Each member if the 5 is in charge of a different element, and they get to the rout of the person's issues, address them, and work with them to turn their life around.
These are usually people who have been through it, who have been sposered by family or friends who want to help.
They seem to care so much, realy take care of them, and have fun with it!
This was my go to program while I had the pregnancy blues, and I found it so uplifting, though I did tear up on occasion.
Love love LOVE it!

Sarah is trying to put her life back together after a divorce from her air force husband. But when she finds a bag of bloody clothes that belonged to her ex-husband and the woman he cheated on Sarah with, she suddenly finds herself trying to determine what has really happened.

The plot of this book was strong with several twists and red herrings that kept me confused until everything came together at the end. The characters were strong as well. While the writing could be a bit choppy at times, overall there was a tone to the story that was perfect for what the characters were going through.

NOTE: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Mr Tumble and Friends
Something special is a very unique children's television series following the clumsy clown character known as Mr Tumble.
Portrayed by Justin Fletcher and always includes children with disabilities & special needs, involving them in the fun activities of the show.
Over time, the show has created new characters like Aunt polly, Grandad Tumble, Lord Tumble & many more.
A very recognisable character with his polkadot covered patchwork clothes, mr tumble has become a welcoming household name & continues to evolve.

It has helped children with their creativity & imagination and has even spawned a live stage show.
What is also incredible is that Justin Fletcher is a trained Makaton signer who uses this skill on the show with children who have delayed learning & communication difficulties & has created many memories for so many young children.

It is also the longest running programme on Cbeebies.

"Like Mulatu Astake, this is just music that's in its own universe. I don't really know how to play the piano - I never took lessons or anything - so it's all just based on music that I like, but a few songs on Oh My God are definitely influenced by her way of playing, this really quick hammering on the keys, that's kind of unconventional. “I was on tour and we went to visit our friend Heidi in Amsterdam. She had a record on a small, little portable record player and it was playing Emahoy’s music. It was this beautiful piano music and I felt like I'd never heard anything like it. The scene was really nice: she was hanging clothes up in the backyard. it was a nice day out and it just hit me really hard. I asked her ' What is this?' and then I became obsessed with it."
