Amazing Concept
Like many of the survival/crafting games of the genre it partially helped popularize, ARK dumps you on the beaches of a massive, foreboding island with just enough clothing to stay modest and your own two fists. From there, the challenge is to stay fed and hydrated while avoiding a huge variety of terrifyingly detailed dinosaurs and other beasts long enough to progress up the tech tree. Early in the life of a character, you might be taking out dilophosaurs with throwing spears and hoping a triceratops doesn’t come and knock your thatch hut over in the middle of the night.

From there, there’s a really nice flow of technological progression that makes advancement feel like more than just an increase in stats. Thirty hours later, you may preside from a sturdy stone castle from atop which you snipe pterasaurs out of the air with a rifle. By the endgame, it’s possible to have a massive steel fortress full of blast furnaces, complete with electric lighting and gas generators, churning out components for building rocket launchers and SCUBA gear.

I LOVE my Leaf by Bellabeat. I wear it everyday- mostly as a bracelet but I have worn it as a necklace or clipped to my clothing. I love the sleek design. So many people notice and compliment it.

Like most fitness trackers, the Leaf monitors your steps, and sleeping patterns. You can use the app to track your water intake, meditation, and also monthly cycle. The app uses the information you input and creates a "stress readout" depending on what you have going on in which areas. I love that I can easily track these things and look back on past weeks to determine any patterns.

Unlike other fitness trackers, there is no screen on the Leaf. I know this bothers some people, but I am not using the Leaf as a Smart Watch. I like that I can check it on my phone and I'm not constantly updating things on my wrist all day. I check it once or twice a day and for the most part, I forget about it. It is not distracting to me in any way.

Greig's book takes a look at the Beau Monde - the fashionable elite - ranging from the 'Glorious Revolution' up to the early part of the 19th century. The Beau Monde and The Season were instigated by the more important role of parliament following the deposition of James II by his daughter and her husband - William III & Mary II. The peerage would spend a good deal of their time in London attending parliament, and so so social 'Season' was born. It was interesting to see the extent to which politics permeated the fashionable society and the importance of 'gossip' and 'chit chat' which letters from wives to husbands can be full of. The book covers jewellery and dress, exile from the Beau Monde and fraudulent claims to membership, court attendance and much more. Particularly with the clothing and jewellery, I think this would really have been enhanced with coloured plates, but sadly all the illustrations are black and white.

In her introduction, Greig states that this book has grown out of her doctoral thesis on the subject. It is a quite a scholarly read, but not completely inaccessible to the general reader.
