"I was exposed to Brakhage’s films during college, and like most cocky film students who want to make narrative work, I thought it was bullshit. I wanted to make real movies, and I had no idea what this stuff was—it seemed like anyone could just fuck around with a strip of film and some paint and point the camera at different shiny things and make a movie. What was the point? And what could anyone possibly see in the work? Those questions are still worth asking, but I’m asking them with an open mind now, and it’s thanks to filmmakers like Brakhage, who were brave enough to experiment. I don’t love all the work, but I love exploring it."

Waiting for Guffman (1996)

"What else? Waiting for Guffman! Stop already, right? Christopher Guest and all of his tomfoolery. Of course, there was Spinal Tap, but in more recent years…I think the storyline of [Guffman] was so relatable to any actor who’s ever done community theater in their hometown. Here were all these egos, in a small town, where it just didn’t matter. I come from Indiana, and when you’re doing stage productions in high school, or in your community theater, or on the college stage, you think you’re Broadway bound, for sure. You’re all going to be stars! It’s delusional theater, is what it is. But that whole cast of people, having their basic storyline, and then vamping on their own brilliance, was just golden. Just golden."

It was an interesting take on ghost stories, certainly one I've never read before--or that I think I have...though the Charley Davidson series is kinda like it, I guess.

I was drawn in early on and although Alona was a little annoying at the start I have to say she'd grown on me (and Will) by the end. Will was just different from the start, not wanting to be popular and unable to be even if he wanted to with his ability to the see the dead.

The possibility of a romance between these two and moving to college makes me want to read the next one in the series and I'll be hunting it out from somewhere at some point in the future.
