Awix (3310 KP) rated Superman (1978) in Movies

The first blockbuster superhero movie is still one of the best, treating its subject matter as one of the great American myths (and quite right too). Benevolent father-figure somewhere in the sky sends his only son to Earth, to do good deeds with his special powers and inspire people by his example (religious subtext is not laboured, thankfully).

Not especially like the Superman comics of the time, but a classy, charming movie all the same, performed by a charismatic and rather eclectic cast. Third-billed Christopher Reeve was instantly type-cast as Superman, but then Superman was also type-cast as Christopher Reeve for many years afterwards. The ending is somewhat confused but the movie's depiction of Superman himself is so very nearly perfect that it earns itself a pass on this.

I recently got an Amazon firestick and caught this movie that way. The acting, cinematography and effects were good but the story was a little disappointing. It completely altered the origins of Venom. Being a comic fan, that didn't go unnoticed. It would have been fine if the whole movie wasn't based on a character from the comics. If I didn't know who Venom was and the characters involved, I'd give this a better rating. However, this is a popular iconic character from the Spiderman lore and doesn't even mention the webslinger or take place in the same city. If you don't care about all that, but like adventure movies, you'll still enjoy this one. Not the greatest comic book movie adaptation, but still an entertaining movie. Worth a watch.

Well, that was … different.

By now, we're all used to witnessing the current Superhero phenomenon - Spiderman, The Fantastic Four, The X-Men, etc - from the point of view of those characters, drawn (predominantly) as larger-than-life.

This eschews all that, focusing instead on the point of view of a bystander on the street (photo journalist Phil Sheldon), with the characters drawn in an almost photo-realistic manner. As such, this deals more with how the public (would) view those characters and the massive property damage than inevitably follows one of their battles, picking and reinterpreting various scenes - Captain America at war, Mister Fantastic and Sue Storms marriage, The X-Men and the Sentinels, Spiderman and the death of Gwen Stacey, etc - from the decades of comics now available.

Fun mobile game.
I have played this game for over 3 years, so it clearly keeps you engaged and coming back for more. The game play is very good and it really brings a lot of Marvel characters to life and not just the more famous characters. The game does a really good job of keeping up with all the Marvel TV shows/films/comics, with the updates to characters, uniforms and storylines.

The only major downfall to the game is over the years that have hidden more and more characters behind paywalls and unless you are a very patient player the collection of crystals can be a grind.

All in all though this is probably one of the best mobile games I have ever played.
