"I’m taking you in a slightly different direction now, and I’m going to throw down Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker. To me, as an actor, and as a lover and proponent of independent film, what Kathryn Bigelow and Jeremy Renner were able to do on a budget… The storytelling in this movie is sublime. I would have a hard time putting any performance by a male actor above the beautifully nuanced, incredibly layered performance that Jeremy Renner gives in this movie. Yes, he was nominated; I still don’t think he gets enough credit for this performance. Maybe it’s my place in life, maybe it’s the age I was when I saw the film, maybe it’s the fact that I’ve been frustrated with the lack of war films coming out at a time when America was at war and these stories needed to be told. I still feel like they need to be told and aren’t necessarily being told the right way. The Hurt Locker, to me, is as perfect a film as you can make. And Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty — those three characters, gosh… That movie blows me away."

Stately mixture of sentimental drama and bus-pass-bad-ass martial arts movie. Ding (Hung), a fat old man suffering from dementia, is befriended by the perky young daughter of a crook. When his various hi-jinks place her in danger from gangsters, Ding finds his award-winning kung fu skills are still there when he needs them.

The film may be a plea for consideration for dementia sufferers, but nobody watches it for that reason: people watch it for the sight of an obese man in his sixties battering the living daylights out of much younger stuntmen (much like every other recent Sammo Hung vehicle). However, the action sequences, though decent, are a long time coming, and most of the rest of the film is a slow-moving and sentimental melodrama which doesn't quite hit the spot despite decent performances from Sammo and Jacqueline Chan. (The tonal mismatch between all this and the bone-crunching, throat-slitting nature of the gangster scenes is considerable.) Fans of the big man may find this enjoyable enough to persevere with, but it's probably too slow and weird for everyone else.

I didn't finish the book, but as you can only either list your books as "Want-To Read", "Currently Reading" or "Read", I went with the latter choice, as it was the only that seemed to fit even remotely. So, my review..

I try to keep an open mind for most things - meeting new people, going to see a movie or checking out a new TV series, or even when starting a new book. This book came highly recommended, the highest recommendation coming from Faction Paradox creator, Lawrence Miles. So, without even cracking the book open, it already had high expectations thrust upon it.

After five attempts at reading it, I gave up tonight! The book bored me unbelievably! Things got to be so bad that I used to help me to get to sleep the last 2 re-reading attempts.

I felt there was just too much going on, with a difficult to really get a feel for *any* of the characters in the first quarter I trudged through. After devouring Miles' FP debut novel, 'This Town Will Not Let Us Go', I thought this would be just as good; sadly, not so much.

Mia Mi is an up-and-coming 18-year-old singer-songwriter based in North London. Not too long ago, she released an encouraging pop tune, entitled, “Teenage Tears”.

“Teenage tears you cry all these years. Well, they got you here, so just trust that you’ll be okay. Now she got a little confidence. Things that didn’t, starting to make sense. She can make a change just go see what’s next.” – lyrics

‘Teenage Tears’ contains a relatable storyline, ear-welcoming vocals, and lush instrumentation scented with danceable pop aroma.

“And now you know it’s so good to be different. Break out the bucks you ain’t got no limits. Just give it time, you will learn it in a minute.” – lyrics

Mia Mi’s music is a mixture between Ariana Grande and Mabel. At the age of 10, she won a local singing competition.

Shortly afterward, she enrolled at London’s Centre for Young Musicians and then graduated from the critically acclaimed Brit School.

After fulfilling her educational duties, she released cover videos of popular songs via her YouTube channel.

Since then, her debut single, “Talk To Me”, has been added to 30 playlists on Spotify and has amassed over 120K streams.

Die Hard 2 (1990)

I'm not going to lie, about 10% of the reason I like this one is because of William Sadler doing naked tai chi.

Could you imagine Die Hard 2 filmed these days? There'd be no tasing Dick, what a disappointment.

Of the few things that bother me about this one the film's yippee ki-yay for me could have been better timed. He's got the perfect moment coming up, if he'd have just left it until after he lit the fuel... "Yippee ki-yay, motherf*****!" *two beats* BOOM.

Sadly Die Hard 2 is my least favourite out of the four... like I said, we don't count the fifth one. Not that that's a bad thing, it's still damn good, it's just up against some stiff competition.

In the first one McClane has Powell, in Vengeance he has Zeus and in 4.0 he has Farrell. For some reason in 2 they didn't give him someone to properly develop a relationship with, there are lots of people there for him to interact with, but nothing really lasts very long before he's off to the next one.
