Book_nerd_qu33n (0 KP) rated One of us is Lying in Books

One of my new faves
I loved one of us is lying
I had to buy it when I saw it was like the breakfast club which is obviously a cult classic...
I didnt want to stop reading it.. at first I was getting confused with all the character changes but its not hard to get me confused lol... The character growth was very well done I enjoyed how they evolved into the people they are supposed to be it was full of twists that i didnt see coming even though i did predict who it was I was still suprised with the way it was all planned out. I usually hate endings of good books because they usually end disastifyingly but i was happy with the ending..... I recommend this book to anyone who loves twists and whodunnit stories.

Britt Smith (36 KP) rated Alien: Out Of The Shadows in Books
Mar 11, 2018 (Updated Jun 26, 2018)
I can't lie to you about your chances, but... you have my sympathies.
I'll update this as I get more into the book, but I dove into Alien Out of The Shadows after a Xenomorph kick (I like to pretend the movies after the first two do not exist). It brings you back to the chaos, and Ripley is in the mix as this is set between Alien and Aliens. Hopefully, they can capture that feeling.
** Update: You know, for a quick read it was a really, really good book to delve back into the world of Alien/s. There was only one part that let me down and the rest? Well, let's say I'm going to be coming back to the sequel. Great fun if you love the universe and want to continue your ride.

Gail (4 KP) rated Break Away (The Baltimore Banners, #5) in Books

Breakaway by Lisa B Kamps
Four Stars
What a beautiful story. The author had me in my feelings while reading this book. Babies are so precious and to lose one before they had a fighting chance just breaks your heart. The characters were well written and balanced each other out. Jean-Pierre was beautifully flawed. He accent perfect his sometimes shy and confused mannerisms. Not knowing what he wanted but knew that it began and ended with Emily. Her role was just heartbreaking. Always living with the knowledge of what she lost and the pain of doing it alone. The uncertainty she felt about JP and what his coming back meant. This second chance book is one to definitely pick up. It read quick and they moved fast but in the end it was worth and they ended well.

Gisell Middleton (189 KP) rated Promise Not to Tell in Books
Jul 12, 2018
This book is either a romance wrapped up in a mystery or a mystery within a romance. It's hard to decide which even though the formula seems to offer the same end result. This is the second in a series and it is pretty much exactly the same as the first, even down to the damaged yet strong female client who falls in love with the rugged and brave private investigator, the monumental yet nonchalant declaration of love and the hurried nuptials. The characters and situations are interchangeable and, while it makes for an entertaining read, the mind starts to wander once you can figure out what's coming next because you've read it before. The characters however are likable and while the "issues" are not very imaginative, the author does manage to make us care about them and their lives.

Lee (2222 KP) rated Exploding Kittens in Tabletop Games
Aug 31, 2018
Fun Game
My daughter is in love with this bonkers game! Exploding Kittens is a russian roulette style game featuring amusing art from The Oatmeal. Simple to learn, but with some quirky little rules that I have to keep looking up again and again (usually when my daughter uses them on me to full effect!). It's one of those games that isn't that exciting at the beginning of a new game, but as you near the end of the pack and you know that the exploding kitten card is coming soon, the tension and enjoyment really grows. I'm not sure of the longevity of the game though, and that's the only downside to this really. There are expansion packs available, to enhance the gameplay and increase the potential number of players, which I'd be interested to try out some time.

Chris (9 KP) rated Crocodile (2000) in Movies
Apr 26, 2020 (Updated Apr 26, 2020)
Mediocre step down for Tobe Hooper
Tobe Hooper, the director who brought us 1974s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, directs this low budget 2000 horror film about a group of unwitting college students who venture on a house boat for spring break and soon come face-to-face with a local legend, a giant mother crocodile who seeks vengeance when one of them destroy her nest and steal one of her eggs. This alone makes for a senseless plot as most of all of them deserve what's coming to them. The only thing really worth watching in this just seeking this giant reptile sink his chompers into them making a meal out of them. If there is one good thing about this flick, it is the soundtrack. The film stars Mark McLauchlin, Caitlin Martin and Chris Solari.
