Ross (3282 KP) rated The Sun Sessions by Elvis Presley in Music
Jul 8, 2020
Rolling Stone's 11th greatest album of all time
Compilation of early Presley recordings from his time at Sun Records. No particular standout tracks, but it is always good to hear a different side of an artist of his stature, seeing how we developed from an energetic young showman into ... the caricature of him in later life.
Ross (3282 KP) rated Boys Don't Cry by The Cure in Music
May 6, 2020
Rolling Stone's 438th greatest album of all time
Technically just a re-issue of The Cure's debut album for the US, this "compilation" features the well-known title track, but not many other well known Cure songs. All songs are fairly typical of their early post-punk style, brooding yet oddly optimistic lyrics and electronic guitar music underneath.
David McK (3194 KP) rated Aliens: Bug Hunt in Books

A compilation of Alien(s) stories, set during the events of all 4 of the original movies (Alien, Aliens, Ali3n and Alien: Resurrection), with a large portion of these concentrating on just-about-everybodies favourite characters from the second movie: that of the Colonial Marines.
As a compilation, some of these stories are better than others: the stand-outs (to me) are the one about Bishop, the one about the history of the Pulse Rifle (yes, seriously! Somebody actually took time to write up a piece on that!) and the one told from an Alien Point-of-view (such as it were).
However, some of the others seem overly-formulaic: Marines get sent to distant planet that has lost communication with the inhabitants, to find the Weyland-Yutani has a hand in the proceedings ...

Ross (3282 KP) rated Armed Forces by Elvis Costello / Elvis Costello & The Attractions in Music
May 4, 2020
Rolling Stone's 475th greatest album of all time
I love quite a few of Elvis Costello's songs and a few of my favourites are here - Accidents Will Happen, Oliver's Army and (possibly my favourite song of all time) Peace, Love and Understanding. The rest of the album is pretty good too. Goon Squad was a new discovery for me, and enough to justify listening to this again rather than a best of compilation.

The Music I Want
The options for music are limitless! If I want to listen to a compilation of artists from a specific genre, it's simple to find one that fits my mood. Or if I'm in the mood to listen to one specific artist, I get an entire playlist of just them. Whether I'm working out, driving around town, taking a road trip, or just relaxing at home, with Spotify I can always find the right music!

Darren Fisher (2447 KP) rated MTV Rocks - Pop Punk Vs The World by Various Artists in Music
Jul 11, 2022 (Updated Jul 11, 2022)
Maybe it's my age but not one single track on this compilation is punk. Not even by todays standards is this at all punk. MTV Pop Punk? Jeez... do MTV even show music videos anymore? No doubt there is a market for this kind of rubbish and to a certain demographic the 'kids' will lap it up. Me though? Definitely not. Give me The Clash, Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks etc any old day!
David McK (3194 KP) rated Star Wars, volume 4: Crimson Reign in Books

So, confession time first.
I picked this up recently, started reading it, got myself a bit lost and then found out I had missed a series in-between (collected in Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters).
Back I went, picked that up, and put his on hold to read that entry.
This now makes a bit more sense!
It also follows on more from the previous collection, with this being a compilation of issues 20-25 of the main-line Star Wars series, and with this bringing to a close the story of Imperial Commander Commander Ellian Zahra.
There's also an attempt to 'bring-in' characters from other Star Wars media spin-offs: most noticeably, Qi'Ra from the film 'Solo' but also Poe Dameron's parents. Final issue in the collection (issue #25) has nothing to do with the main-line characters (Luke, Leia, Han, etc) but is instead a compilation of 4 mini-stories starring (1) Obi-Wan and Anakin, pre RotS (2)Darth Vader (3)Kylo Ren and (4) Poe Dameron.
