2009.

That's now 12 years ago, and 3 years before the setting of this big-budget disaster movie.

2012 is also when the Aztec calendar 'ended', leading to lots of conspiracy theories and some hysteria around the time that the world would end.

Which is what this movie is about: cue lots of earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis and the obligatory family-reconnecting that is de rigeur for this type of movie!

Horrorfying Summer
Summer of 84- is a really good comedy horror film. The plot is excellent, thoughout the movie it was creepy, scary, but also funny and dramatic.

The plot: Teenager Davey Armstrong is a conspiracy theorist who begins to suspect that a neighbour is a serial killer. With help from three friends, Davey launches a daring investigation that soon turns dangerous.

Its myesterious but also has dark humor within. I highly recordmend watching it.

A human story in a thriller
I am pleased to finally hear a realistic thriller with no conspiracy theories or bizarre government involvement. It is dark to hear the level of stalking and apathy, but it is about the sides of emotion that people present. There is a twist at the end that completely changes the entire story. Difficult to say much without giving it away, but you'll end up hating but changing your mind about the characters.

An intelligent film about how the media is a propaganda machine
As a journalist, this German movie is a dream. It's all about quality programming, stopping mindless TV sucking out the life of viewers and finally watching some quality and meaningful television. Obviously there are conspiracy theories throughout the film, in which the TV personality hijacks the broadcasting schedule to stop politicians dumbing down the populace. But what film doesn't have a bit of action and adventure?

The story here is so good, and everything I could want in a comic. A murder investigation turned supernatural conspiracy encompassing the global financial market. Pulling strings that lead to or take advantage of economic downturns, the various schools rule the world from behind the veil of a free market. The art is so dark and brooding, the characters intense and vibrant, I'm buying this by the issue and the trade, and eventually, when an omnibus is released, I'll buy that too.

Odd Thriller
I've put off seeing this for a while as it seems to have mixed reviews. Ambitious perhaps but a film that tries to fit too many genres. The first 2/3 of the film are ok. You think is this going to be a film about a spurred, crazy lover. Or maybe some elaborate conspiracy theory, a romance even. In the final 3rd though it all goes a bit odd and in a direction that didn't fit the rest of the film.

A very topical graphic novel
This is very relevant at the moment. It makes for depressing reading about our society. A woman, Sabrina, goes missing and her boyfriend goes to stay with a childhood friend who is in the military, in order to get away from the media scrum. His friend is actually a very central character in all of this.
When Sabrina is found murdered, there are those on the internet who believe that this is 'fake news', that her murderer has been framed, and when they find out where her boyfriend is staying, they target the friend he is staying with. They send him emails trying to prove a conspiracy. When the video that the murderer made of Sabrinas actual death (which has been sent to news outlets)is leaked on to the internet, it means that anyone can watch the murder. But the conspiracy theorists still don't believe that this is all real. The it is a set up.
It's depressing and scary, and it really happens. It's fictionalised in the book, but it HAS happened. And that is what has made it stand out.

A nice pacy thriller

I enjoyed this interesting thriller after discovering it on Netflix. The brilliant Naomi Rapace is in great form as the bodyguard assigned to protect the daughter of a rich man whose company is bidding to buy land that is also being bid on buy another rival firm. Lots of action and plot twists make this well worth watching as the two of them must fight against the odds to uncover who is behind the conspiracy and assassination attempts on the girl.

I found this film, despite the awfulness of what happened, quite refreshing. This was due to the fact that there were no conspiracy theories mentioned, it was a straight forward telling of the assassination and the events that followed. These events are told via people who found themselves involved through no fault of their own- the man who videoed it, the doctors who tried to save him, Lee Harvey Oswald's brother and others. There's not much action and was flat in places but it was really interesting to see the different viewpoints.
