Merissa (12038 KP) rated When the Wind Chimes in Books
Nov 13, 2020 (Updated Aug 14, 2023)
I did find the blurb to be slightly confusing as Kaitlyn (Kate) did not come across as heartbroken. She was sad at the death of her brother-in-law, upset for her sister and nephew, and annoyed with her ex-boyfriend. Heartbroken though? No.
She goes to Hawai'i for Christmas as it is the first one her sister will have without her husband. Whilst there, she has two job interviews that come to nothing but does land a job looking after a little girl who is one of her nephew's classmates.
The angst in the book mainly revolves around whether or not Lee actually likes her or if he just sees her as his child's temporary nanny. There is some mention of what it is like to lose a husband or sibling and the impact that has on the family left behind.
All in all, this was a sweet read with a seasonal setting.

Merissa (12038 KP) rated Nanny Negotiations (The Brotherhood: Legacy #1) in Books

This one is set in Contemporary London. Aubrey needs a live-in job. Heath needs a nanny for his daughter, Eugenie, but still wants his time with her. Aubrey manages to convince Heath that a live-in nanny is best and BOOM, we're off.
I loved all three of our main characters. Eugenie, in particular, was so reminiscent of my daughters when they were that age, that I couldn't help but fall in love with her. Aubrey and Heath were brilliant together once they started communicating.
The supporting characters did their jobs amazingly well, and I loved them all. Well, all apart from the ex, of course. She was a piece of work, alright, and I've known a few people who only looked out for themselves.
Steamy in places and yet easygoing, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and have no hesitation in recommending it.

Scarlett's character was immediately likeable, as were Cara and Luke. Jude, you are left questioning - which is the whole purpose of his character! Scarlett is dealing with a personal tragedy, leaving her with unanswered questions that she needs answers to. She decides to spend the summer in her grandparents' old home, trying to give herself both some space and also the answers she wants.
This is a book that definitely builds up, and there is no insta-love or love triangles, which I will be forever grateful for! The story is intriguing and smoothly paced, and the contemporary world setting is both complex and carefree.
Fair warning - this story comes to a close with one major cliffhanger!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more about the Ceruleans. Definitely recommended.

Five Reasons Why You Should Drop Everything on July 18 and Read The Color Project
Lately I've been in a reviewing funk/slump, so I am back again with another list of reasons why you should totally drop everything, and I mean everything (except for homework and other real-life priorities despite the fact you'd rather read all day) on July 18 (WHEN THE BOOK COMES OUT!) and read Sierra Abrams's debut novel.
The Use of Apps - I think this is a really minor detail, but I almost never see books that actually uses smartphone apps, and Abrams incorporates the use of at least one app I think almost everyone uses on a daily basis if not more.
Gorgeous Writing - I currently don't have the copy with me by side as I'm writing this review, but Abrams has some amazing descriptors in her novel (most of which having to do with stars and constellations, which I adore). Have I mentioned the chapters are based on songs?!
Family and Friendship - Aside from the obvious romance, family and friendship plays an important role in The Color Project, and I loved how Abrams incorporated those two elements together seamlessly with romance.
So Much Emotional Feels - If anyone knows me well enough, I am not an emotional person when it comes to the books I read and the movies/TV shows I see. The Color Project brings out my emotional side, and I had so many tears as I got closer to the end of the novel. (Granted, I might have been watching far too many Boys Over Flowers episodes and reading about three other contemporary novels at the same time, but I never cryyy.)
Cute Characters - I am alll for adorable characters. Imperfect Chemistry is valid proof of that, along with many others I've been reading lately (from I Believe in a Thing Called Love to When Dimple Met Rishi). Bee and Levi are so adorable, I just want to pick them up from The Color Project and adopt them.
It was an absolute delight to read Bee's and Levi's story in The Color Project, and is perfect for those looking for a contemporary novel that has gorgeous writing and bring so much emotion.
