Not quite as expected
All style but lacking substance
After seeing a trailer for this I was interested to see it. Looking very stylish with the 60's flash backs to the Soho night life. Along with a mystery to be solved about past events.
The style is great the soundtrack is cool along with 60's fashion that features prominently. The look is good as well with the lighting and and editing.
Unfortunately it was a bit slow going for the first third of the film. Some of the young supporting cast weren't great in their roles. Some of the plot developments were on the predictable side. The direction of the film meant it wasn't quite the type of thriller I was hoping for. Anna Taylor-Joy and Thomasin McKenzie are the real highlights of the film though. Could have been better but worth checking out.

Summer Camp Slasher
Part 2 set mainly in '78 largely serves to give a back story of how one of Shadyside's residents previously survived the curse of the Witch. So we get a Slasher film that follows the old Summer Camp setting that was popular back in the day.
While again it does very well to set the scene for '78 with the Fashion, Music to give it the right vibe for the era. It takes a little while to get to the Horror side of the film. It doesn't have the energy of the first installment or sense of urgency. Gore fans should be happy though and in terms of the story around the curse of the Witch this continues on well from the first film.
Overall a good second installment similar in style to the first and one horror fans will enjoy.

I saw this not knowing too much about it. I was expecting more of a comedy, it has it's moments. However it's more of a coming of age, teen drama. That said it is a very good character driven film and uniquely interesting in a funny kinda way. It tells the story of one guys summer working a Adventureland, a rundown old theme park. There he encounters a wide range of misfits who he becomes friends with. A good film, well directed and the actors make it an entertaining watch, not to mention a time trip to the '80s. Cool soundtrack as well from that era.

"First is The Devil Wears Prada, which I watched a million times over. I’m a fashion fanatic, and I love how it’s like a character in the film. I think it’s one of Meryl Streep‘s most amazing performances. I don’t know, there’s just something about it, the subtleties like the little purse of her lips that she does. I think it’s just really cool, and it’s a bit of a guilty pleasure. And the soundtrack on it is fabulous. I loved watching the way in which they used fashion through it, the dedication to keeping it very fashion-forward. I loved it. I thought it was brilliant."

"I know it's not cool to go with a soundtrack album but, if I'm honest, this is hugely influential. The film is so wrapped up with my teenage years; when I first saw it I was the same age as the main character and I was somewhat terrified of being somebody like that. To see someone who's so nerdy and yet full of himself is frightening at that age. You wonder, 'Do I do things like this?' You become so self-conscious at high school, you worry about what your peers think, you're terrified of looking weird, or being weird. Somehow the soundtrack represents those feelings. There's lots of British music on there, like the Faces' "Ooh La La" and "Making Time" by the Creation. I grew up in a very small town, so a lot of kids I went to school with mostly listened to rap and rock from the radio. But I did have a group of friends who appreciated films like Rushmore and music like this."

384. What If. A pretty decent romantic comedy. A very formulaic romantic comedy, tho the performances and a decent soundtrack helped a lot. This is of the 'we can be friends' variety. Wallace a med school drop up, just can't seem to find love, then he meets Chantry at a party, sparks fly. He walks her home, and as that awkward moment of should I kiss her, she drops, yea my boyfriend, blah blah, Wallace stopped listening for a second. Boyfriend? Wtf? Anyway, the sentence ends with here's my number we can be best friends! He's like, yea. Then promptly loses it in the wind. The End. No, fate. They meet up randomly outside of an airport sometime later, and he is so ready to be friends with the girl he has the hots for! Will he find a way to get the girl? Gee, I wonder. Like I said, very formulaic. It is a fun movie, Harry Potter plays Wallace. Zoe Kazan plays Chantry. Wallace's best friend, Allan, is played by Kylo Ren. Its nice to look at and fun to listen to with a cool soundtrack. Check it out. Filmbufftim on FB

Only watched the 3D version on DVD so far, some scenes look good and you can tell it was made and shot to be a 3D film. Some scenes looked more like a hologram though. I have to add the colours seemed a bit out at times .....barely noticed the blood which there is tons of!? Will watch again in 2D soon.
Otherwise it's a fun, very bloody, gory creature feature with some good SFX, plenty of hot girls including Kelly Brook, good soundtrack, some tongue in cheek humour and a decent cast! It's a little short at 78mins and the climax of the film wasn't exactly epic. If you like cool films that know their target audience, you'll enjoy this!

"Violent Femmes was a huge high-school record. I probably got it when I was 14 or 15. I just played the entire album on stage with [Femmes bassist] Brian Ritchie, Brian from the Dresden Dolls and [Bad Seed] Mick Harvey, so I found myself revisiting the record and my early experiences of it. The one thing I remembered was that when I heard that record for the first time, I thought Gordon Gano was a girl. But really sexy! The songs were so sexy and raw and filled with beautiful, actually relatable teenage angst. The music and the production was all so immediate. My cool friends and my older brother were all listening to punk. I tried to be cool and tried to like the Sex Pistols, but I just couldn't get into the records. There just wasn't enough song there for me. But the Violent Femmes was like punk music that my brain could actually follow. I played that tape into the ground, just a non-stop soundtrack. Another thing I realised revisiting it was there's just not a bad song on that record, not a single moment that isn't essential. There's not two seconds of filler."
