Rodney Barnes (472 KP) rated Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D (1998) in Movies
Oct 3, 2019 (Updated Oct 3, 2019)
Don't waste your time
There is not too much I can say about this except it's just plain awful. I tried to watch this twice but fell asleep both times. Same old tired plot. Von Struckers children steals a virus that can destroy the country and they have to be stopped. Bottom line....this movie was terrible. It would be a waste of your life to watch this one
The Craggus (360 KP) rated The Kid Who Would Be King (2019) in Movies
Mar 5, 2019
The Kid Who Would Be King (2019) pulls contemporary adventure from the stone of legend.
Opening with exactly the same set-up and opening thematic point as “Justice League”, Joe Cornish takes the idea of a country and a world which has lost hope and, with a keen eye for contemporary resonance, weaves a wonderfully affirmative and inspirational tale from the ancient cloth of legend and the modern social fabric of present-day England...

Jenny Houle (24 KP) rated Snapchat in Apps

Cute frames (4 more)
Can add location info to each photo if wanted
Can decide who, specifically gets to see each photo
Alerts you if someone screenshots your photo (unlike Instagram, where a private profile is only as private as the friends you allow on it let it stay...sometimes, that's a really bad feature of Instagram)
Temp stickers are definitely fun when sending photos whining about the weather to friends and family across the country
AT (1676 KP) rated Alice in the Country of Hearts, Vol. 02 (Alice in the Country of Hearts, #2) in Books
Nov 15, 2019
Volume 2 of Alice in the Country of Hearts was a very quick read. The characters are beginning to show their true colors, so some of their interactions were more interesting than they were in the first volume. There were a handful of parts that seemed random, but overall, it continued on its trippy story path. On a personal note, I didn't think that the White Rabbit could become more annoying, but I was wrong. Success! Lol
Barry Newman (204 KP) rated Midnight Run (1988) in Movies
Feb 26, 2020
Robert DeNiro flexes his comedy muscles here with successful effect for one of the first times in his career in this largely entertaining road movie. The film still holds up pretty well today and is well written , the bickering and bantering between DeNiro and Charles Grodin is very amusing as they make their way across the country. I think it's a bit overlong and would have been a better film with a tighter edit but overall it's good fun.
Reagan Elizabeth Grainger (288 KP) rated Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm (2020) in Movies
Nov 14, 2020
Pretty funny and disturbing
Sasha is amazingly talented and able to use Borats character first to make you laugh then feel a bit horrified as you are often laughing at racism that shouldn't even exist in 2020 nevermind in a free country. It is funny just a bit obvious in places but I'm willing to forgive it due to what is an important social commentary.
Steven Yeun recommended Still Walking (2008) in Movies (curated)
Blazing Minds (92 KP) rated The Forever Purge (2021) in Movies
Oct 29, 2021 (Updated Nov 2, 2021)
I have to say that The Forever Purge certainly keeps to the flow of the franchise, I did find it a little uneasy at times with its portrayal of how some people in society hate others for the colour of their skin, the country they are from and other ways that people can easily be so evil to fellow humans, but this is the idea of the film and getting that across works very well.
David McK (3369 KP) rated Civil war (2024) in Movies
Apr 28, 2024
Well.
That was not at all what I expected, based on the trailers.
I found this to be long, dour, slow, and boring, following (as it does) a quartet of unlikeable photo journalists as they travel cross country across a divided United States (with no real reason given how it got to that state) in a race to Washington DC in an attempt to interview a third term President.
Not for me (or those I went with)

Caffeinated Fae (464 KP) rated You'd Be Mine in Books
Apr 2, 2019
While browsing NetGalley "You'd Be Mine" came up. It sounded interesting and I'm a sucker for a good rockstar romance. This is a little different simply because it features a bunch of country music references which did throw me for a loop simply because I don't listen to country.
This book was surprisingly good. The main characters are realistic & will definitely make you root for them to get their lives together. They both are damaged and I like that they struggled with issues. It was nice to see how Erin Hahn wrote them. I definitely enjoyed the storyline. My only issue with this book was how easily things were fixed. It seems like it was wrapped up a little too quickly. I wish that we would have seen more of the "getting our lives together" stuff and less of the "everything is perfect" stuff.
I do appreciate that Erin was able to create solid characters and I will definitely look into reading more of her books.
All in all, it's a good book that had solid characters.
