This one starts with Rynna leaving her small town after yet another run in with her bullies, breaking her Grammy's heart as she flees. Fast forward quite a few years and Rynna is coming back to run the diner her Grammy used to own after her passing away. She's wary of people recognising her and dreads running into her bullies but makes new friends within her first days and meets her neighbours, single dad, Rex, and his young daughter Frankie Leigh. Rex has closed himself off from pretty much everyone and, intrigued by the contradictory man, Rynna can't help wanting to get to know him.

This was sweet. Both damaged in one way or another, wanting to overcome it when they meet that special someone and in this case it's each other. My only issue is I want angst in my stories lately. I want them to scream and fight and make up with each other. That didn't quite happen but somewhere around the 65% mark, someone made an appearance that sent everything up in the air and I was dragged into the story fully for the first time. It got a little intriguing with me wondering how it would all play out.

One thing I did really like about this book was Frankie Leigh. I have a huge weakness for adorable babies/children in my romances and Frankie Leigh may just have won the award for cuteness. She's so full of cute energy with her enthusiasm and crazy fashion sense. Adorable!

I wouldn't mind going back to Gingham Lakes to read Rex's friends stories.

Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken (2017)

Interesting but possibly contradictory
I loved the first Super Size Me, it may not have put me off McDonald's for life but it really made me think and really highlighted a point with how bad fast food is for you. I was intrigued to see what Morgan Spurlock had come with up next, but I found it a little lacking.

The concept behind this documentary is Morgan opening his own fast food chicken restaurant, and shows him from the beginnings of owning his own chicken farm to the restaurants grand opening. It really opene my eyes to what does into chicken farming and production (at least in the US) and it really is a disturbing watch at times. Some of the things that chicken companies are allowed to do and label food is crazy and the way they treat their chicken farmer is awful. Spurlock doesn’t shy away from showing all of these bad bits and because of this it’s an intriguing and interesting watch, even if it’s a little difficult to stomach. My problem is that by the end, whilst I can understand why Spurlock wanted to open his own chicken restaurant to highlight the major issues with this type of food and production, it seemed a little bit lacking in direction and rather pointless - regardless of his message, it almost seemed to me like he was contributing to the problem and encouraging people to eat this chicken, even if he was showing them the truth behind it at the same time. Maybe I’m just being a biased and stuck up vegetarian, but it seemed a little contradictory to me.

Low Budget but Fun
414. 3022. In space, no one can hear you scream. However, if you're desperate need of a smoke, this space station has plenty. The budget for this one must've come from tobacco, I'm telling ya! The premise is this: Four astronauts embark on a mission to the refueling station, Pangea, between Earth and mankind's first space colony on Europa. I would've thought we would've tried our first space colony a little closer to home, like the moon maybe, but sure halfway across the solar system works too. Their mission, from what I saw, nothing. I guess they refuel ships on their way back and forth. Oh and their mission is 10 years long. My guess is by the year 2190, not 3022 by the way, refueling stations in space probably won't need people on them at all, nevermind for a 10 year stretch. But whatev's it's just a movie. Five years into the mission however, something goes wrong, the little blip on the radar that signifies Earth, it just disappeared. What is 4 people to do on a space station after they just discovered they are now an endangered species? Go crazy of course! Whats one thing that spaceship disaster movies have in common, the onboard doctor goes bonkers, Angus Macfadyen fills the roll in this one while Omar Epps and Kate Walsh try to keep it together! It's a fun low budget sci fi flick. They keep the effects to a minimum, and sure there's a few bad edits, glasses on, glasses off. Other than that, I enjoyed it. Filmbufftim on FB!
