Forget Cowboys Vs. Aliens, this is Cowboys Vs. Zombies and it's much more fun.
It had a bit of everything I like in a book: romance, adventure, cowboys...and I kinda like zombie books, too (though they have to have a bit of romance in them as well). It didn't shirk on the horror details either with some rather creepy scenes involving one family.
I really liked Trace/Cowboy and Elisabeth/Red. They were both really great characters and I have to say that Cowboy seemed like the ideal guy to meet in a wild west zombie apocalypse. As for Red, she was pretty kick-arse. The secondary characters were cool too.
I'm very intrigued as to what will happen next in the series and can't wait to read the second book in the series.

I'm pretty sure the thought process for Drive Angry was along the lines of "let's make a film where Nicolas Cage has a gunfight whilst fucking someone, and he's also smoking a cigar, and swigging on a bottle of Jack Daniels" and then they just wrote the rest of the screenplay around that.
It's always entertaining to watch Cage do his thing, and Drive Angry has a handful of fun moments and some half decent ideas, but dammit, it's too try hard in its attempts at bad-assery, the CGI is an eyesore, and this is the second film I've seen where writer Todd Farmer literally wrote himself into a gratuitous sex scene. It was weird the first time, second time its just plain creepy.
Drive Angry is the movie equivalent of an STI.

What The Hell Was This Movie
High Life- from the trailer it looked like a survival horror movie in space. It is that but way much more in a bad/creepy/what the fuck way. I wont go into details, you just have to see it yourselfs and judge it.
The plot: Monte and his baby daughter are the last survivors of a damned and dangerous mission to the outer reaches of the solar system. They must now rely on each other to survive as they hurtle toward the oblivion of a black hole.
I can say this both Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche were good in it. I wouldnt recordmend watching it, but i same time i do recordmend it cause its such a weird movie. Check it if you want to.

A really good, short story that despite its shortness, was packed full of great characters and a general overriding sense of the creepy.
I don't really read a lot of supernatural books now but every now and again I like to hark back to my teenage years and indulge myself in a bit of creepiness and Mould definitely hit the spot and I very much look forward to reading more in this new series to see which eerie place it takes me to next.

Not what I expected
I need to start off by saying that I wasnt a fan of Get Out, and I hadn't even see the trailer for Us, so I went into this with low/no expectations, and I was actually pleasantly surprised.
The first half an hour or so is a bit of a slow burn introduction to the family, almost lulling you into a false sense of security before abruptly flipping into full on horror film mode. There are a lot of things I liked about this film; it doesn't rely on obvious jump scares and instead focuses on being massively creepy and almost downright terrifying. I liked the pop culture references like Home Alone, and for me the bits of humour thrown in worked quite well to lighten up an otherwise tense film. And going against the usual horror movie tropes (I.e. victims not being so helpless after all) was refreshing. I also thought this was going to be a bog standard home invasion film, and it really isn't. The wider plot and story going on here is a great idea and the twist at the end too was brilliant, entirely unexpected and I usually pride myself on being able to spot these things coming a mile off.
However there are some things I really didn't like about this film which have led me to mark it down. The cast were great, but I could not stand the voice that Lupita Nyong'o gave Red. For me it wasn't creepy or scary, it was just silly and verging on the hysterically funny. I couldn't take her seriously every time she was speaking on screen. Also, I didn't like some of the more animalistic behaviours and vocalisms they gave the rest of the doppelgangers. It detracted from their overall creepy and terrifying appearance and I think they could have maybe made them a little quieter for a better effect. I hated the soundtrack - it seemed far too dramatic and over the top and not in keeping with the tone of the rest of the film. And I think the dancing scene in the final act, was very stylish but completely unnecessary and I found myself getting very irritated by it as it was just silly and a little confusing.
Overall this film isn't perfect by any means, but it was a lot better than I had ever expected. I feel like going into a film without having seen dozens of trailers etc beforehand actually makes for a far more enjoyable experience.

Characters – John is the father of the house, we know he has been on hard times and this house is all he can afford for his family. He does love both his wife and daughter and is trying to teach his daughter a lesson after her mistakes have led them to this location. Hannah is his daughter of John that has been getting herself in trouble which caused the move, she is grounded and is the first one to notice the strange events around the house. Melanie is the new wife and step-mother to Hannah, she doesn’t do much beyond the normal, which is mostly trying to be the best friend in her time of need. Ray is the creepy neighbour that offers to help change the locks, less we say about him the better.
Performances – When we look at the performances in this film we must be praising Erin Moriarty as she is excellent in her role, the weaknesses come from the parental characters, Michael Vartan and Nadine Velazquez who both don’t seem to do much with their roles in the film.
Story – The story here follows the family that move into a new home only to start seeing strange things happening and we fall in the, ‘creepy person living in the attic’ sub-genre, which is one that I feel is getting tiresome, there is only so much you can do while telling this story and if we are being honest we have seen it done on better levels before. The build up follows the checklist and by the end of the film the story just feels like it is trying to hard to be different, rather than good.
Horror – The horror in the film comes from the idea that someone could be living in your house, it is an easy idea for because being haunted in your own home should be working, though this misses the tension required for the film.
Settings – The film is set entirely inside the one house, which is all we need as this keeps the film contained for the maximum levels of horror, even if they don’t use it well.
Special Effects – The effects for the most part are good with the kills looking extra brutal when they hit.
Scene of the Movie – The first meeting of David.
That Moment That Annoyed Me – We have seen this too much.
Final Thoughts – This is a by the books horror that doesn’t test the audience enough, it has an easy out which doesn’t get used at all, though the killer does look creepy throughout.
Overall: Been here seen this.
