BookInspector (124 KP) rated My Lovely Wife in Books

Their family looks like any other family, mother, father, two children, but what their posh friends don’t know is that mommy and daddy like to kill people. This story is told from father’s perspective, and I have no idea what his name is. (If he mentioned it and I missed it, please let me know.) His wife Millicent, runs the family, she makes the rules, she cooks and cleans, she is the main earner in the family, and she likes to plot the murders. I really enjoyed reading this book from a males perspective, it was creepy, sometimes disgusting and unbelievable but interesting. I liked the way the author was unfolding the story, there were these little turns and twists throughout the book, that got me intrigued to find out what will happen next.
Sometimes it did feel that the narrative was quite stretched in places, and was just repeating itself, I would’ve liked a little more action.

What Lies Under The Stairs
The People Under The Stairs- is a very underrated movie. Its one of wes best work. Its thrilling, scary and horrorfying.
The Plot: When young Fool (Brandon Adams) breaks into the home of his family's greedy and uncaring landlords, he discovers a disturbing scenario where incestuous adult siblings have mutilated a number of boys and kept them imprisoned under stairs in their large, creepy house. As Fool attempts to flee before the psychopaths can catch him, he meets their daughter, Alice (A.J. Langer), who has been spared any extreme discipline by her deranged parents. Can Fool and Alice escape before it's too late?
Craven has stated that The People Under the Stairs was partially inspired by a news story from the late 1970s, in which two burglars broke into a Los Angeles household, inadvertently causing the police to discover two children who had been locked away by their parents.
Its a really good movie.

Emma @ The Movies (1786 KP) rated Wildling (2018) in Movies

A child who has been protected from the Wildlings by her Daddy finds out that her life isn't what she thought it was.
Not quite as horror as I was expecting, the fantasy nature of this one made it much more enjoyable.
A good story with a nice progression to it. It was nice to see Liv Tyler in something after what seems like such a long time. I was also pleased to see Brad Dourif, he's the face you always see in things, and he's always just a little creepy.
The audio effects were good in this one, the extra little grumbles and noises as she's becoming less human, and the enhanced hearing. Each bit comes together to add something to the scenes. I didn't feel like the visual effects quite met up to their standards though.
Still though, this was an enjoyable watch, and although there were some predictable bits everything was genuinely entertaining.

Erika (17789 KP) rated Hustlers (2019) in Movies
Sep 28, 2019 (Updated Dec 29, 2019)
I had zero expectations going into this film. First, I had watched a 20/20 episode on the real life strippers that this was based on, and basically, the movie took the concept and made it a sort of BFF film. The people Ramona and Destiny's characters are based upon were definitely not friends.
This movie was drawn out and boring. It was a LONG hour and 49 minutes. A lot of the scenes were unnecessary, and would not stop going. I thought the Christmas scene would never end.
Something was off about Constance Wu, she was very wooden and again, boring. Also, while Cardi B and Lizzo appear in the film, they're more like cameos, which is a shame. The Usher scene, while unnecessary, was one of the best in the film. Usher looks the same as he did back then, and it's super creepy.
I'm not sure why this had all the buzz at TIFF.

LeftSideCut (3776 KP) rated Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019) in Movies

A great looking and fun horror film that leans too heavily on jump scares
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark - the overall plot of this film is a fun one, and the nature of it revolving around short stories enables the movie to explore different creatures and dangers without having to worry too much about plot connection.
There are some really creepy shots throughout (The Pale Lady in the red corridors will definitely stick with me) but the scares end there. The movie relies on cheap jump scares a bit too much, with many scenes of uncomfortable silence before a SUDDEN SCARY THING! pops out at you. It becomes tiresome fairly quickly.
The designs of the creatures themselves are pretty good, and the darkness of most scenes masks obvious CGI effectively.
I'm fact, the films looks pretty good throughout.
As a horror film, it's pretty tame, but it's fun, and I would recommend a watch if horror is your bag.
