Sarah (126 KP) rated Shallow Graves (The Haunted #1) in Books
Feb 16, 2019 (Updated Feb 16, 2019)
Some plotlines were rather predictable (1 more)
Writing was a little lacklustre in parts
Genuinely creepy, if a little predictable
I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription, and it is the first part in a six book series (although, at the time of writing this review, the sixth book does state there is a seventh to come - which has not materialised some 15 months later, despite the author being quite a prolific writer).
I enjoyed this book more than I expected to; there were some moments of real trepidation, wondering what was coming, but I did feel that the writing lacked a little urgency or ability to induce real fear.
That said, even though there were elements of the storyline that were incredibly predictable from the outset, it did grip me enough to make me continue with the series.

Megan Miranda is an author where I'll read whatever she writes. The topic of this book is slightly bizarre, but it's a completely compelling and fascinating read. I read it in less than 24 hours, as it's very easy-to-read, and I totally fell for the characters. Kennedy and Nolan are united in grief--two kids who have been through so much for being so young.
This novel is creepy and often inexplicable, but the plot is really great. I was completely hooked. Kennedy and Nolan are tied together in interesting ways, and there's also a mystery-type story that unfolds as well. There are a couple of great twists that fully surprised me.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one. It's compelling and heartfelt, with strong characters and a sort of fun yet creepy undertone. 4 stars.

Well acted (1 more)
House looks very creepy
Hauntingly good
Finally got around to watching this after hearing good reviews. It can be tricky to make a TV series that is scary for 10 episodes. This does a very good job.
The atmosphere is very good and generally goes for an eerie, creepy feeling with a few jump scares. The child cast were very good, although it took a couple of episodes to work out which Adult was playing the grown up version. It's quite intelligently done with how it links events from the past and present from different perspectives. Finishes nicely bringing everything to an end. The last 2 episodes didn't really the impact I hoped for. However series as a whole was very good. Worth checking out for Halloween.

Susan (45 KP) rated Get Out (2017) in Movies

Loved the creepy, tense, out of place feel from the main character's perspective (1 more)
Lots of deeper messages and metaphors to look out for
Modern day Stepford Wives with one hell of a twist
Great Movie! Not at all what I expected. The comedy was well timed and helped to lighten the otherwise extremely uncomfortable atmosphere (which I loved).

Lauren Cohan (1 more)
Great location
Decent Horror film
When I first heard this was a creepy doll movie I didn't get my hopes up. Surprisingly I did enjoy it. Lauren Cohan of The Walking Dead is good as the Nanny. The Mansion is almost a character in itself looking like a Gothic Castle. It has some neat twists and was much better than I expected.

Excellent, edge-of-the-seat thriller. The closest we'll come to 24 since the end of 24 (this includes the new 24).
Kevin Bacon is an excellent, flawed detective investigating the rise of cults. His nemesis is obsessed with Edgar Allan Poe and his followers wear creepy Poe-masks in their attacks, which are some of the creepier scenes in a non-horror TV show.

It's a classic!
So I may be a little biased as I was born in the same Minnesota town as Judy Garland. Even so, there's something so magical about witches, munchkins, a colorful faraway land, and a girl who just wants to go home. And let's not forget those sparkly shoes! This movie is a treasured part of my childhood!

Keep it Creepy, Keep it Cool
I am relatively new to the world of Podcasts and luckily for me Spirits was one of the first I came across. It immediately became a must listen for me. I love learning the history of various mythologies and stories from around the world, as well as the hilarious tangents that the girls often go down.

A pretty good horror taking into account the PG13 rating? It was better than I expected and is in the same vein as the Ring. It has a few jumpy moments and some of the imagery is pretty creepy. Good effects and well made I just felt the ending seemed a little rushed and wasn't great. Pity as the build up was quite good.

Autumn (3 KP) rated Mansfield Park in Books

I really wanted to give this five stars, it's my favorite of Austen's novels excepting Northanger Abbey, but the idea that Fanny was oh, so fortunately raised by those who would be her family, that her husband influenced her opinions, temper, and worldview is beyond creepy. I can get over the cousin aspect but the molding of the perfect wife very nearly ruined it for me.
