Merissa (13159 KP) rated The Daughter of The Ice (Age of Rekindling #1) in Books
Mar 22, 2023
THE DAUGHTER OF THE ICE is the first book in the Legends of Elessia: Age of Rekindling series and I found it helpful, although not necessary, to have read other books in the linked series by this author.
Eregar is one of the main characters of this story, along with others including Erika, Lucius' sister. They are given the task of finding out why people are going missing. Unbeknownst to them, Elaine has risen and is busy making her army with all those missing people.
Now, I'm going to be honest here, I found it a bit puzzling that Elaine, the Daughter, was attacking villages and The Tower when they were in the North and followed her ways. That was just a small matter though and I could look over it as the action leapt off the page.
I enjoyed this story and look forward to seeing where it takes me next. Recommended by me.

Merissa (13159 KP) rated Her Mountain Rescuer (Honey Ridge #1) in Books
May 30, 2025
HER MOUNTAIN RESCUER is the first book in the Honey Ridge series, but features two characters we have met before. Hailey is Logan's daughter, and Beau is his best friend. We met Logan in Accidentally Kidnapping the Mountain Man, when Kaylee kidnaps him.
I love this author's books! She gives you exactly what she promises - a hot and spicy age-gap Daddy Romance with a breeding kink. AND IT WORKS! Even though this is a one-sit novella, you will get swept up in Hailey's story, feeling her heartbreak when she thinks Beau is out of her reach. You will feel his frustration at wanting his best friend's daughter. So when they get together and work it out? Sheer perfection!
If you're after a short and hot instalove story, then I recommend not only this book, but any by this author. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me.

A sombre tale of choices
At first, you end up loathing the cynical protagonist, a womanizing professor, who seems to have lost the will in life. Until the moment he realises the tragedy that befalls his daughter and that some things are out of his control.
The prose is poetic and decadent, but where I find some difficulties in processing is the protagonist's outlook of separating women into the virgin or prostitute category. What we understand is that the main character has actual little understanding around him. Very intriguing read.

Ross (3284 KP) rated Blood of the Mantis in Books
Sep 13, 2017
Here the series starts to fragment into a number of threads, all of which are key to the plot of the whole series.
Tisamon takes his half-blood daughter to be trained as a weaponsmaster, these scenes being quite emotional yet thrilling.
The Wasp Empire continue to be as annoying as their insect namesakes.
Overall, this book is like a big game of capture-the-flag, with everyone trying to get their hands on the shadow box, a mystical implement of unknown powers (but if the Wasps want it it must be bad!).

A nice pacy thriller

I enjoyed this interesting thriller after discovering it on Netflix. The brilliant Naomi Rapace is in great form as the bodyguard assigned to protect the daughter of a rich man whose company is bidding to buy land that is also being bid on buy another rival firm. Lots of action and plot twists make this well worth watching as the two of them must fight against the odds to uncover who is behind the conspiracy and assassination attempts on the girl.

This quickly became my favorite book before I ever finished it. I read more of the dark and twisted genres, but this was a beautiful story with just enough edge to keep me absorbed. It unfolds a relationship between a mother and daughter who can see into the future causing her to be an outcast when all she is trying to do is save the lives of the people she holds close to her heart.

CBorden (67 KP) rated The Hunter’s Prayer (2017) in Movies
Feb 6, 2018
Sam Worthington pushes himself as an assassin hired to kill a teenage girl as he struggles to face his own demons - addiction, his past as a soldier, and his lack of relationship with his own teenage daughter. The movie is action from start to finish with not a lot of great suspense or unexpected plot twists. However, for an action flick, its rather mild presentation (minimal swearing, not overly graphic, no unnecessary sexual content) plus the realistic potrayal of the emotions the hunter and the hunted must work through, this is an enjoyable movie!
