"The climax. The euphoria that comes from that intro. You know everything's going to be OK. You can feel they've gone through this hell, and they've arrived at this place that didn't really do them any good. They broke up, but it's a massively positive song, and it's absolutely fantastic. People say they didn't fulfil their potential - Keith Richards says bands don't stay together long enough - but really? They didn't have to. That one album is up there with Never Mind The Bollocks, with with any classic debut album. It's up there. Totally.""

Probably the most famous of criminal duos is Bonnie and Clyde. Their spree of murder and theft ended up with a shoot-out that ended their young lives in the spring of 1934. In her debut novel, Jenni Walsh attempts to paint a fictional portrait of the woman who made up half of this team, from the sketchy information available, and no small amount of innovative flights of fancy on Walsh's part. Read my review of this historical fiction novel in my review here.

(Thanks for the free book, @PRHGlobal / @prhinternational) The name Kennedy is known worldwide, and descendants of that famous family are in the public eye to this day. However, there’s one Kennedy who we know little about, mostly due to her early demise. She was named Kathleen, but everyone knew her as Kick. Kerri Maher’s debut book “The Kennedy Debutante” is a biographical historical fiction novel about this fascinating woman, and you can read my review of it on my blog now. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2018/10/27/home-again-kathleen/

The Hughes brothers make quite an impactful debut with this realistically powerful and violently graphic story.
I found similarities between this and Carlito's Way in that it's a story about changing one's life no matter how bad it was before things get out of hand and time runs out for you.
The gang violence is excessive and the story line shows that growing up in this environment makes it very difficult to escape from.
It's one of the better gang related movies alongside Boyz n The Hood and has a strong message.

Rolling Stone's 250th greatest album of all time
Fairly tedious hip hop debut by Jay-Z. Most of the lyrics are about making money (legally or otherwise) or spending it. Most songs include lists of designer labels, Cristal etc etc. I think this set the mentality for the next generation of rappers, and while there is at one point a note that "crime is bad", it is fairly well hidden and the rest of the album does somewhat glorify crime and set the goal in life as being "having things".
