Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated Well-Offed in Vermont (Pret’ Near Perfect Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Stella and Nick Buckley have traded in life in New York City for a small town in Vermont. But when they arrive at their new home, they find a dead man in their well. Since they can't move in until the murder is solved, they dig in to catch the killer themselves. I enjoyed this debut, especially the main characters. Unfortunately, I felt the momentum in the beginning was slowed down by back story that could have been slipped in better later.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated The Mournful Teddy (A Bear Collector's Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Brad and his wife Ashleigh are enjoying his retirement by indulging their hobby of teddy bear collecting and creating. But then Brad finds a body on their property and a local show featuring a rare bear is robbed. Will this ex-cop be able to figure out what is happening? I loved this debut. The characters were great, there was some good humor, and the mystery was well plotted. The only issue was that the first chapter was a data dump.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated A Clue for the Puzzle Lady (Puzzle Lady #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
A dead body has been found in the cemetery, but there's a weird note attached to it. Is it a crossword puzzle clue? If so, what does it mean? And can Cora, who doesn't actually write the crossword puzzle column that bears her name, figure it out? I enjoyed this series debut despite Cora's drinking, a vice she gives up a few books down the road. The word play more than made up for it to me.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated Moving is Murder (A Mom Zone Mystery, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Air Force wife Ellie is used to moving. They've arrived at a new base, this time one their best friends are also assigned to. However, one of those friends is soon accused of murder. Being new to the base, and Ellie work out the local politics to find the killer? The characters are a bit under developed and the plot moves slowly in the first half. It does pick up later, but it wasn't the strongest debut overall.

The Craggus (360 KP) rated Hulk (2003) in Movies
Jul 18, 2018
Don't remake it angry, you won't like it when you're angry. Hulk (2003) 15th Anniversary Review
Not to be corny, but today marks the 15th anniversary of the not-so-jolly green giant’s big screen debut, Ang Lee’s underappreciated “Hulk”. It also probably marks at least ten years since I last watched it and I’d always considered it the lesser of the two Hulk movies but it really isn’t. Revisiting it now, at the height of the current superhero boom, it’s a dazzlingly visual take on Dr Banner and his emerald alter ego...

KarenRC (6 KP) rated The Tall Man in Books
Jul 23, 2018
For the majority of this book I was clueless as to what had happened and who had done what to who! But that is a good thing! It was only in the last few chapters that everything did finally come together and it was done very well. Loved the back and forth between the 90’s, 2016, 2018, diary entries and emails. Even with all the back and forth, it was easy to follow and did a great job of keeping the story moving while ramping up the tension.
An excellent debut thriller that will have you checking those shadows!

Ross (3284 KP) rated Only Built 4 Cuban Linx by Raekwon in Music
May 2, 2020
Rolling Stone's 480th greatest album of all time
This is Raekwon's, real name Raemond Kwon (joke), debut solo album on a brief break from WuTang Klan. I like my hip hop with a good amount of focus on the actual music, and for me this was somewhat missing throughout the album. This means the album is more of a collection of shouts over basic drum beats. Add to this the frequent interludes of people arguing and swearing at each other (seriously how and why do they record these interludes?!) it makes the album a little boring and samey.
