Fractured part 1 ( Society book 11)
By Mason Sabre
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Society law states that mixing the species is illegal, and anyone who breaches this rule will be executed.

The next heart-pounding instalment in Mason Sabre's Paranormal and Urban Fantasy, Society Series.

Cade MacDonald, shifter, wolf, son of the alpha, detective … law breaker.

He is a man who believes that we only get one life and is willing to do whatever it takes to do the right thing in his, even if it means breaking those laws.

When a young shifter is hunted down and slaughtered for the same secret Cade holds close to his own heart, he must face more truths than his soul can stand. Does he risk everything and fight for Gemma Davies, shifter, tiger, member of a different species—the one thing in the world that makes sense to him, or does he abide by the laws and lose everything?

I love love love this series! We are back with Gemma and Cade as they fight to stay apart not knowing they are being lied to left right and centre. This series just drags you in every single book whether it’s a short novella or a full book. I have to pace myself as I’ll read the lot in days. We also have the mysterious Henry trying to convince Gemma she’s his reincarnated lost love. It’s all hotting up.

The Sanatorium ( Elin Warner book 1)
By Sarah Pearse
⭐️⭐️

A beautiful, eerie hotel in the Swiss Alps, recently converted from an abandoned sanatorium, is the last place Detective Elin Warner wants to be. But her estranged brother has invited her there for his engagement party, and she feels she has no choice but to accept.

Arriving in the midst of a threatening storm, Elin immediately feels on edge. And things only get worse when they wake the next morning to find her brother's fiancée is missing. With access to the hotel cut off, the guests begin to panic.

But this is only the first disappearance. Everyone's in danger - and anyone could be next . . .

If I’m going to be honest I struggled through some of this book! It was ok but that was it just ok! I couldn’t stand the character Will he just drove me crazy I was hoping he would become a victim! It was very middle of the road for me and after all the hype I’d seen I was kinda expecting a little bit more. The main character could have been a bit more interesting I know she has a past that’s dragging her down but I felt it wasn’t explained or brought out very well! It’s a shame as I wanted to love it! Also the Epilogue was a bit strange it didn’t really entice me to want the next book.

When Home Invasion Leads to Murder
Erie City Police Detective Matthias Honeywell has been called to the site of a second home invasion robbery in a matter of days. The difference here is that the husband managed to escape and go after the thieves. Unfortunately, the next morning, photographer Emma Anderson finds the man’s body in some debris that washed on shore from Lake Erie. The more Honeywell investigates, the more he finds that revolves around Emma. Can he solve the case? Will she be the key to unraveling it?

This is a strong start to a new series. Both Honeywell and Emma come alive quickly for us, partially thanks to their backstories which are slowly given to us without over teasing. The rest of the cast is just as strong. We get the story from both Honeywell’s and Emma’s third person points of view in alternating chapters, so it is always easy to tell when we are switching. And the story is strong. I struggled when I had the put the book down, especially when I hit the page turning climax. (Stupid real life!) Since this is a police procedural, it is darker than the cozies I often read, so know that going in. Those already a fan of the author will be delighted with the new series. If you haven’t started reading her books yet, this is a great place to jump in.

A Shock and Some Flaws
After a scandal forces her from the LAPD, Beth McDade lands a job as a detective in Barstow, California. Nothing much happens in this middle of nowhere location until one night when a motorhome hits a vagrant. It appears to be a tragic accident, only no one knows who the vagrant is. And the autopsy turns up some surprising things. Can Beth figure out what is going on?

Since I normally enjoy Lee Goldberg’s books, I picked this one up without paying much attention to anything about it. As a result, I wasn’t aware it was a blend of Police Procedural, Science Fiction, and Western. It was initially shocking when I realized where the book was going, but then I got caught up in the story, which unfolds in the present and the past. It helped that I grew to enjoy the characters, although the raw nature of the first chapter made it a little hard for me. This book definitely has more content than the cozies I typically read. However, the book tried to do too much. There’s a subplot that really doesn’t go anywhere, and some of the story set in the past gets summarized for us. Meanwhile, the last couple of chapters have a bit too much exposition for me. I appreciate the attempt to do something different, but the execution could have been better.

**ABOUT THE BOOK**
A rural New Zealand vacation turns poisonous.

Antiquities expert Annalisse Drury and tycoon Alec Zavos are at an impasse in their relationship when Alec refuses to clear up a paternity issue with an ex-lover.

Frustrated with his avoidance when their future is at stake, Annalisse accepts an invitation from an acquaintance to fly to New Zealand—hoping to escape the recent turbulence in her life.

But even Annalisse’s cottage idyll on the family sheep farm isn’t immune to intrigue.

Alec sends a mutual friend and detective, Bill Drake, to follow her, and a local resident who accompanies them from the Christchurch airport dies mysteriously soon after. A second violent death finds Annalisse and Bill at odds with the official investigations.

The local police want to close both cases as quickly as possible—without unearthing the town’s dirty secrets.

As she and Bill pursue their own leads at serious cost, the dual mysteries force Annalisse to question everything she thought she knew about family ties, politics, and the art of small-town betrayal.
