This story tells the tale of Broderick and Davina, how they meet, what impact on each others' lives they have or will have, tells of the fears they fight, and the enemies who plot against them. There will be an overall story arc running through this series, as the epilogue tells us when Cordelia once again makes an appearance.
With an engaging storyline, excellent world and character building, plus a smoothly paced plot that builds to a thrilling climax, this story is a wonderful start that nonetheless will leave you wanting to know more. Definitely recommended.

The writing took a couple of chapters to smooth out, but I get it, all the character introductions can be hard. Once we got into the mystery, it got much better. The mystery was solid, although I did figure a couple of things out early on the way to the logical climax. Amanda is a different series lead since she is happily married with two young adult children. I loved that difference and what it brought to the story. I’m glad I picked this book up and hope we get to visit Amanda again.

This was basically Chicken Run in a Spanish bull farm. The bulls are all vying to become the one chosen to take place in the big bullfight, not realising it meant their death.
Given the subject matter and how controversial bullfighting has become, I thought this was dealt with quite carefully. The death was only hinted at early on and then was quite a shock to the characters so was delivered as a plot point rather than a moral statement. The end does move slightly towards preaching but it doesn't force it home. My daughters both left knowing bullfighting was wrong and not nice but they weren't traumatised by it.
As usual, there is a fair amount of humour for adults mixed in through the film, and the voice actors are all quite adequate.
Overall a decent family film.
