It’s not often that I’ll finish a book and hug it. Genuinely, that’s what I did with Devotion by Hannah Kent.

Devotion is set in the early 19th century in Prussia. Hanne, her family and friends are Old Lutherans, and must worship in secret in the woods. For Hanne, a child of nature, this is the ideal place of worship. But it is dangerous for them all.

Hanne doesn’t make friends easily, and so when Thea arrives in the village with her family, she unexpectedly finds her soul mate.

All the families in the village are given the opportunity to emigrate to Australia, where they will be able to worship their religion without the threat of violence. But the journey doesn’t go as planned. Too many people are packed in to too small a space. Disease is rife. And with disease, comes death.

This is a truly beautiful book. The descriptions of the landscapes and nature of both Prussia and Australia are evocative. The characters are fully rounded and easy to empathise with. In all, it’s my favourite kind of book: slow, quiet, gorgeous prose and imagery on every page.

The real surprise was the magical realism. If I’d known it was in this book, I wouldn’t have been put off one bit, and it really does add something extra special. Oh my god, I cried buckets. It’s just perfection.

Many thanks to Pan Macmillan for my copy of this wonderful book through NetGalley.

Scythe Faraday
One of the best premises I've read
I'm a big Ya fan along with Dysatopic books so I was excited about reading this book.

The premise itself is brilliant if we irradiated death via disease and accident the general population would eventually expand so it couldn't hold everyone so the sytche where created taking as few people as possible to maintain order but like all things evenatlly power will seep in somewhere and corrupt this is a great story and I can't wait to see where it goes next.

THE lead charcter are Citra and Rowan selected by Scythe Faraday to become his apprentices however evenatlly only one can have the job.

I received a copy of Storm and Fury from Netgalley and Harlequin Teen in exchange for an honest review.

Sexy shapeshifting gargoyle boys! Count me in!

I was initially confused because this one jumps right into the story. Turns out it's a spin-off, so that explains a lot.

It started of a little slow but once the action starts it doesn't really let up.

I really liked Trinity. She could have easily been an obnoxious Chosen One ™ type but the book managed to avoid that.

Also Trinity is disabled which I appreciate so much as a disabled woman. Every bit of representation matters and I love the matter of fact way a degenerative disease is s dealt with.

Cabin Fever (2002)
Cabin Fever (2002)
2002 | Horror
Sick Water
Cabin Fever- introduces Eli Roth in his directorial debut and 80% of this movie is sickening, disturbing and gross.

The Plot: Bert (James DeBello), a college student vacationing with friends in the mountains, mistakenly shoots a local man (Arie Verveen) with a skin infection while hunting in the woods. Panicking, he abandons the scene and leaves the man for dead. When the man stumbles into a reservoir, he infects the water supply, and soon one of Bert's friends becomes infected. The friends struggle to stop the contagious, flesh-eating disease while on the run from a group of ornery backwoods locals out for revenge.

Its a okay underrated horror movie from the early 2000's.
