"If you’re worried that you’re crazy and want to feel sane, watch this riveting documentary about artist R. Crumb and his relatives. His family defines dysfunctional. He alone found a way to channel the dysfunctionality into creativity as a unique form of visual art."

Wow. Probably the best documentary I have ever watched. I was rivited to the screen for the entire movie. I was on the edge of my seat. I absolutely recommend watching this to anyone who is a fan of climbing or extreme sports. Absolutely phenomenal!

"Like other gifted artists who often bring their best to live performances (the Stones, the Who, Billy Joel, Elton John, Tina Turner), the members of U2 create a palpable chain reaction with the audience. (Tied with Billy Joel’s “The Last Play at Shea” documentary.)"

"With no narrator, a Philip Glass score, and dramatic reenactments, there’s a lot of media that tries to imitate The Thin Blue Line, either without knowing the source or without coming close to Errol Morris’s dramatic, funny, and chilling documentary, which redefined the genre."

This unique novel is written like the transcript of a documentary about a rock band that disbands at the height of its fame and success. You can read my (effusive) review of this book here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/11/29/sunsetting-at-dawn/

The way the story’s told is very gripping
Almost like an in ear documentary. Amazing production, the way the story is told is great, the music, the narrators voice.. an all round unique great podcast. Can’t wait for LA Times to do more of these.

Strange cases of the missing
if you have read the book you would know that people just suddenly vanish in the american wilderness under strange almost paranormal circumstances. The documentary plays down the paranormal side more, which is a shame but it is still an intriguing story.

"There are parts of this film that told me absolutely that I was going to make a film myself, even if I had no idea how. Particularly, things like having a real dancer play the dancer lead. A little twitch of documentary stirred in my head."

"I’d been after this for years, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a neon acid trip of a movie. Incredible soundtrack as well. I think there’s a line where incredibly stylized movies can achieve an emotional sense that you can’t get to through documentary or traditional Hollywood styles."
